NEW ISSUE: New National Stadium

12-03-2004, 18:12
The National Stadium is in a state of disrepair. For several years, football fans have complained about the state of the stadium. Many people are now calling for the government to fund a new state of the art stadium.

"Football is xxxxx's national sport and it's high time we had a stadium to reflect that." says football fan Robbie Robson. "I was one of the people injured at last year's cup final when the TV gantry fell on top of me. The stadium is a joke, and the government should put their hands in their pockets and pay for a new one."

"I agree" says Billy Bowser, president of the xxxxx Football Association. "You could build a new stadium not just for football but for other sports, and concerts as well. By doing that it would be very cost effective and give a sports crazy country a world class venue."

"Building a new stadium is all very well" says leading entreprenuer Richard Head "but why should I have to pay for it out of MY taxes? If they want a new stadium let them find the money for it themselves."

"Why should a stadium be built at all?" says Jack Schidt, leader of an anti-sports group. "Not everybody in xxxxx likes sports, but we're constantly bombarded with it everyday! Enough is enough! NO NEW STADIUM!"

 Instead of using xxxxxxx to denote the name of the nation, use @@NAME@@. That code, and others can be found on this webpage, http://www.nationstates.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=52491

 You also have to write the effects and the stats for your options. If you scoll down the above webpage, you'll find the variables used for the stats.

No offense meant, but we do already have an issue like that for another sport.
Do we really need another one?

Yes the Baseball one,

But i would get rid of option 2 and include the concerts bit in option 1.

Have option 4 making something happen like diverting funds to schools or internet cafes.

"Sports are way too tiring" moans @@RANDOMNAME@@ coming out of a "Stars Are The Future" Convention. "I mean who wants to get sweaty? Just spend the money elsewhere like building schools for bright children or clubs for more "interlectual" children. Give us all a brighter future!"

Also replace Football with Soccer to avoid confusion

Football works better, though. It means that the reader can make up their own mind which code is being played, be that soccer, rugby, league, Gaelic, Australian Rules, gridiron or any other form of football I've missed.

Why? Even if Americans were to associate it with American football, the gist of the issue would not change.

Thanks for the code tips.

Yeah, I've just noticed the baseball one today.

I think there's room for other sports, it's not like we're flooded with sporting topics.

I don't mind the fact that there is a baseball issue at all. That's fine, but with respect to the sport, it's only really big in the US and a couple of other countries. In the majority of the world, it's just not played, therefore for many players and many nations here it is irrelevent.

With football, it's all-inclusive.

Football (Soccer) is the most popular sport in the entire world with national leagues in every country on the planet. And that's the sport that most people in the world associate with the word.

But I used Football rather than Soccer (apart from hating the term Soccer) is that for Americans, they can relate it to Gridiron, while Aussies will relate it to Aussie Rules. Some in Australia and New Zealand may also relate it to Rugby.

Therefore it is a term that is relevant to the whole world.

Do I need to do it again with the code, or can that be sorted by the mods?

Perhaps, in NS II, a nation could pick a national sport, per se, and that's how it could be added into issues like this.
