I chose to allow surveillance cameras (as they said, people are watching you anyway) and the next day it said they were banned. Pretty large error, complete opposite of what I chose...

You clicked the wrong option. You clicked the option to ban surveillence cameras.
Unless a bug has crept into the issue. If so, I'll recommend the mods to look into the ethnic diversity in TV soaps issue as well. I'm still surprised that allowing 'Bigtopians say the darndest things' to become a hit lowered my civil rights in my other nation, Impending Damnation, from 'Frightening' to 'Excessive'.
