Apologies if there are already topics on this, I tried to search but as always the server was being useless.
I know the that issues are supposed to have unexpected consequences, may be more extreme than expected etc but some of them are totally illogical. The torture issue for example appears to lead to a drop in civil rights if you make torture illegal. This is stupid, there is no such thing as a right to torture people, you are infringing on their right not to be tortured for the benefit of national security or something. The same is true of the cannibalism issue, people have a right not to be eaten, thus legalising cannibalism should lead to a drop in civil rights.
Of course it is not always this obvious, I can see why people could disagree over issues like taxation or welfare (right to be free from poverty vs right to do what you like with your money), either could see a drop or increase in civil rights (or ideally neither) but things like legalising torture, cannibalism, death penalty or whatever should not see an increase in civil rights.
