First Contact or Cover-up?

A giant radio-telescope in @@NAME@@, designed for astronomical research, received a strange radio signal earlier this day. Coming from the Vega-system, the signal has caused great unrest under high military commanders and scientists present at the site.

[option] “We should send a signal back to try to establish contact” says professor @@RANDOMNAME@@ “so we can share technology and cultural knowledge. Think of the possibilities, we’d have the first man to walk on other planets and perhaps even to visit other solar systems. But we should inform the population about this signal to avoid panic.”
[effect] the population is in panic after the recent announcement that alien radio signals are being received
[stats]civil rights increase

[option] “We must keep it a secret” says a man in a dark coat standing in the far corner of the room, “who knows what kind of an uprising could happen if this leaks out. The ones who have sent this signal are probably the same who abduct the @@ANIMAL@@. I say we declare the entire surrounding of the installation forbidden terrain and deny ever one access, so my people can study this quiet and peacefully.”
[effect] some parts of @@NAME@@ are suddenly declared forbidden territory by the military
[stats] government spending increases, tax rises

[option] “This has probably something do to with the recent sightings of UFO’s here in the region @@REGION@@” says General @@RANDOMNAME@@, “we need to check if they aren’t here in the country at this moment. Who knows what they’re up to. You should increase the entire budget, so we can…..uhm….just increase the government spending, we’ll find a way to get the money without everyone noticing.”
[effect] citizens are accusing the government of keeping a black budget
[stats] political freedom decreases

i've already send it in :P

That's too bad. Some of the stats could have used more work. They should be more balenced. They probably won't use yours now.

hmm, well, on another forum (used by NS players) there was no comment on them. I'll see what the mods will do with it.

Since the stats probably need to be totally edited by a mod anyway, that's not the main part of the issue suggestion. The text is, with the stats giving a direction in which the player thinks the effect should go. I agree with the stated directions.

Am I right in thinking further details should be left to the mod editors?

First Contact or Cover-up?

<snip>

Gee, like the movie Contact (or the book, to be fair =p) a bit much?

Actually, I think it looks pretty good- yes, the stats will need a wee bit of work, but it's my job to take stuff like '[stats]civil rights increase' and change them into codelike stuff the game can understand ^_~

When I next sift through the issues submissions list (probably this weekend, real life has been trying to PWNZ0R my moddy keister lately), I'll keep an eye out for it. (And, to be fair, I'll also look for more 'serious' issues so RC can stop complaining in that other thread  )

The basic concept is there. I think more balanced consequences are needed for each response could be warranted. Keep working with it, and then, see where it goes.

The book is a whole lot better than the movie.

I looked for it- it isn't in the current batch I've got access to. (Current batch is up through Nov 2003).
