Appointment of Spiritual Advisor
The Issue
It's time for the government to hire a new religious advisor. Your people have narrowed down the candidates to:
The Debate
Catholic Archbishop Sue-Ann Trax: boasts an excellent track record, having rapidly increased church attendances in his constituencies through the "Reaching God Through Guilt" program. Seen as a solid choice.
[Accept]
New Age thinker Beth Summers: a left-field candidate with some radical ideas. "For me, it's not about the name of your religion. It's about discovering your spirituality in whatever guise that takes. Some people call that a cult: I call it taking spirituality to the people."
[Accept]
Finally, there's Naki Fellow. "If I am awarded the appointment, I will immediately resign," the ex-schoolteacher has declared. "Because, frankly, God is a big load of hokey. I'll be doing everyone a favor by just shutting up about it."
[Accept]
I've had this issue several times and I've been consistently annoyed that there is no option to take a stance which respects all beliefs equally. Why can't I appoint a committee with representatives of all the beliefs which exist on a large scale in my nation? That way, the government can respect everyone's ideas without being seen to endorse any specific one.

Well, you can dismiss the issue. Ideally, you would have been able to hang the lot, but that's what I would have liked to do with each and every issue. My people do nothing but whine, on a daily basis.

I do dismiss it, but it's annoying. Also, if you're not going to allow the committee thing, it should at least be more representative - the only one with a specific believing religion is catholic - it could say "the major religion of @@NAME@@" instead.
In fact, I think I'm going to make an issue for when people pick catholicism or atheism.
For those who picked option 3 of the previous one:
Name: Is @@NAME@@ discriminating against religion?
Description: A coalition of members of several religions are claiming that the government's appointment of an atheist religious advisor and subsequent adoption of an atheist viewpoint has lead to discrimination against religious people.
Validity:Only for nations which picked the atheist in the issue about appointing a new religious advisor
Options:
[option]"This is grossly unfair!" says minister @@RANDOMNAME@@. "We demand that religions be respected with the appointment of a committee of religious advisors representing all major belief systems, and the abandonment of any official religious or non-religious government viewpoint. Of course, atheists, agnostics, and the like could be represented on the committee too, so as not to discriminate."
[effect]The government tries to respect all religious and non-religious beliefs equally
[stats]civil rights increase, government size increases a little, devoutness increases a little (equal to the decrease resulting from the atheist choice in the original issue), "religion and spirituality" becomes more of a government spending priority.
[option]"We must go further than we already have and ban organised religion outright!" says prominent anti-religion activist @@RANDOMNAME@@. "We've outgrown this dated foolishness, and it's time we stopped allowing ourselves to be blind to the truth that there is no god! Anyway, religion is only ever good for dividing people and causing conflict."
[effect]members of all religions are hunted down and locked away for "re-education"
[stats]civil rights decrease significantly, religion and spirituality gets no funding, law and order becomes more of a spending priority, happiness decreases, devoutness decreases significantly
And for people who picked the catholic option:
Name: Does @@NAME@@ discriminate against non-Catholics?
Validity:Only for nations which picked the Catholic in the issue about appointing a new religious advisor
Description: A coalition of members of several religions, atheists and other groups has claimed that the government's appointment of an Catholic religious advisor and subsequent adoption of Catholicism as the official government religion has lead to discrimination against other religions and non-believers.
[option]"This is grossly unfair!" says prominent religious freedoms advocate @@RANDOMNAME@@. "We demand that all beliefs be respected with the appointment of a committee of religious advisors representing all major belief systems including those who contend the existence of god, and the abandonment of any official religious or non-religious government viewpoint."
[effect]the government tries to respect all religious and non-religious beliefs equally
[stats]civil rights increase, government size increases a little, devoutness decreases a little (equal to the increase resulting from the Catholic choice in the original issue), "religion and spirituality" becomes less of a government spending priority.
[option]"Does this government really intend to listen to the heathens?" asks your outraged religious advisor. "If anything, we must go further. Make Catholicism mandatory - after all, you and I both know that this is the one and only true way."
[effect]the government has begun hunting down non-Catholics and locking them away for "enlightenment"
[stats]civil rights decrease significantly, "religion and spirituality" becomes much more of a spending priority, happiness decreases, devoutness increases
Those are some good ideas for issues, _Myopia_.
