I've been trying to get my tax rate down, by substantially cutting subsidies. Is there any way that I can do this quickly? I haven't been getting any issues that deal specifically with taxes or the economy. What should/can I do?

Some issues will be about cutting taxes, others will be about cutting subsides. That's the easiest way to get them down.

Almost every issue seems to affect taxes. Here are some of the effects I documented:

#56 "Give Us Money," Quoth the Poet and #62 Oh, the Angst! I got these together so I'm not sure which one had the largest effect but when I refused to fund either poetry or therapy for depression my tax rate fell by 9%.

#12 Death Penalty on Agenda and #1 Should democracy be compulsory also came together and when I banned the death penalty and allowed voluntary voting taxes went up by 4%.

#53 Orbital Armegeddon and #9 @@ANIMAL@@ on the Dinner Table came together. When I rerouted money to space research and education and banned the worst animal abuses but allowed them to be eaten taxes increased by 7%.

#32 One Wife is Never Enough and #63 Tykes with Tools. I allowed marrying pets and banned child labor. This resulted in a 6% tax decrease.

#42 Turn Down That Racket - Allowing heavy metal increased taxes by 2%.

#76 Suits in Protest - Allowing a white collar union increased taxes by 9%.

#17 Corporations Demand Political Say - Restricting corporate donations increased taxes by 7%.

Banning flag burning resulted in a tax increase of 4%.

Allowing nudity and banning gambling seem to raise taxes.

Of course, these decisions also affect your nation's civil rights, political freedoms, government size, crime rate and UN category so it's a challenge to customize your nation, but that's what makes this game so much fun.

there just has to be issues that will deal with tax. it also depends how you answer issues in the forum.
