Gunman Kills Three // Illegal File-sharing Flares

17-01-2004, 00:33
I have two tough cookies. I hate the Gunman issue, but if I knew what the effects were I could at least get it out of the way. As for the file-sharring issue, eliminating copy rights doesn't sound economically safe. Hacking computers would lower Civil Rights. What does the third option do?
---------------------------------------
The strongest voices demand tighter gun controls. "The only way to prevent further atrocities is to take the guns out of the hands of the murderers," says anti-gun campaigner @@RANDOMNAME@@. "There's no justification for them in today's society. We need tighter regulations on who can hold guns, so only our police and military have them."
[Accept]

"That's not all we need," says radical left-wing activist @@RANDOMNAME@@. "The government should ban all guns outright--even in the police force. This is an opportunity to make @@NATION@@ a totally gun-free state."
[Accept]

"Guns don't kill people, people kill people," says NRA head honcho @@RANDOMNAME@@. "If you outlaw guns, only outlaws will have guns. Is that what we want? Think, people. The answer isn't to ban guns. It's to crack down on those Hollywood movies and computer games that glamorize violence. They're the real criminals."

---------------------------------------

"What we need to do is hack their computers and format their hard drives," says @@RANDOMNAME@@, recording industry representative. "People need to be taught to not mess with the law. This is theft pure and simple. And they're not only halving our revenue to tune of billions of claws, but you are also stealing a few hundredths of a @@CURRENCY@@ from the artist for every song they steal. THINK OF THE STARVING ARTISTS!"

"Yo, dude, like, don't be hatin' man," says teenager @@RANDOMNAME@@. "We're like, going to change the whole structure of our society. Everything should be like, publicly available to, like, everybody, dude. Copyrights are so, like, uncool man and we need to get rid of them. That'd be totally radical, and cool as well."
[Accept]

"Yo, dang, blizzity blang, yo, this ain't, right, yo," says @@RANDOMNAME@@, famous rapper with three platinum albums. "Dang, yo, we dang need to copy-protect my dang CDs, yo. That dang playability life dang decreases, yo, but it's the only way to stop this, dang, yo."

I forgot, as I wrote this issue way way way back, but IIRC, the third option allows studios to copy-protect CDs, which makes them non-backward-compatible with older players, and also decreases the life of the CD itself. Can't remember the stats, though. :? I think the economy would benefit, since people would have to buy CDs more often, and upgrade their players.

Thought it was weird... and i would dismiss the gun issue, well i would if you believe in the southener with a rifle state, which i do. Wait for the gun owndership issue if you want to promote guns, did you write that was well frigben? :P

Regarding the file sharing, I would think option 1 would lower civil rights. Option 2 would increase civil rights. Option 3 was so confusingly written, I'd be afraid to choose it.

I'd dismiss the issue and wait for something clearer.

I find option 3 to be the most reasonable, given that that's what most studios are actually doing today.

And what about the gun issue?

Are you sure there wasn't a fourth option for the gunman issue? I don't remember choosing any of those three.

Abolishing copyrights sure hurts the economy (more than we thought it would). As free thinking cats, Yetar did away with this brake on thinking and we went from good to reasonable. And that in spite of having the largest generic pharmaceuticals and low-cost brand fashion manufacturing sector in our hemisphere!
