citizens are frequently held up at gunpoint...

Does anyone know which choice to which issue caused this to appear on the nation description page?

You picked door #3, sucker! Remember when you let Papa Palocci hire convict labor at substandard wages? The issue was "Prisoners Need Elbow Room".

Yes, my brother picked that one, and his country has been messed up ever since.

I like this issue. It seems to help the economy and doesn't seem to hurt civil rights & political freedoms.

I don't know for sure if it actually raises your crime rate. It might, but who cares? People who are lazy enough, and wealthy enough to order in pizza deserve to get robbed.

Heh... then just make gun ownership compulsory and it'll balance out

Which in fact, I just did. Much fun will be had in Geidi-Prime tonight!

This raises an interesting ethical question though, not that Geidi-Prime is overly concerned with ethics.

If the pizza delivery boy tries to rob a customer (I call this 'free enterprise'), and the customer shoots him, is the customer still obligated to pay for the pizza?

I'm inclined to say yes. Wouldn't want my citizens thinking they can scam free pizza by shooting all my delivery boys.

Hm. Interesting question. The shooting is justified (self defence). I would say taking the pizza would also fall under 'free enterprise'. Now you just need the "Cutting Off Sex Offenders" issue, and you can use them both as slave-labor in your prisons!

If they can prove it was self-defense (e.g., the dead pizza guy has a gun in his hand), then they don't have to pay for the pizza. But if they just shot the pizza guy for no reason, then they have to pay for the pizza and his funeral costs... 8)
