The legislature of West Elbonia has voted to request admission to @@NAME@@ as a province with full membership and voting rights in the legislature. The @@NAME@@ legislature is divided on the issue, and you are called upon to cast the deciding vote.

The Debate

1. "I say we should give them a shot," recommends @@RANDOMNAME@@, speaker of the national legislature. "West Elbonia could be so much more as a part of @@NAME@@, what with all the natural resources and hard work ethic of the citizens. If an independent republic wants to be a member of @@NAME@@, then what have we got to lose?"
[effect]tiny republics all over @@REGION@@ petition the @@NAME@@ legislature for admission constantly
[stats]economy increases, cynicism increases

2. "I urge caution," warns @@RANDOMNAME@@ of the @@NAME@@ Supreme Court. "The vote to petition our legislature was pretty close, and what do we need another province for? For now, we should admit them as a territory and let them earn their way into full citizenship. West Elbonians can have partial citizenship and the right to travel here without a passport, but they don't need to be voting in national elections just yet."
[effect]@@NAME@@ is turning into a small empire with the number of territories it keeps
[stats]economy increases, civil rights decrease, happiness decreases, government size increases

3. "West Elbonia a part of @@NAME@@? This is an outrage!" shouts @@RANDOMNAME@@, your Minister of Defense. "What if they want to take over our government? Our economy? These people are well-off enough as an independent province! Keep West Elbonia out of @@NAME@@ as a province or a territory!"
[effect]@@NAME@@'s foreign policy has turned toward isolationism within @@REGION@@
[stats]compassion decreases, government size decreases

Stats are still incomplete...

Is it? I know there are a few issues like it, like the "Most Likely to Secede" one, but I don't recall this one...maybe it's the whole language one.

I would like it better if it used an imaginary country name. There really is a place called Tasmania. Imaginary names like Bigtopia, Lilliput, and Marche Noir have been used in many issues. Famous imaginary names that haven't been used yet include Brobdingnag, Erewhon, Oz, Slobbovia, and Elbonia.

For the first choice: Um.. why would cynicism increase? There isn't exactly any method behind it mentioned in the issue. Shouldn't it be compassion increasing instead?
For the second choice: Shouldn't it be political instead of civil? I mean, this is a political group after all... maybe even both.
For the third choice: Why should the gov size decrease? Nothing in the choice or the result would indicate a smaller government.
