Religious Advisor Effects

08-01-2004, 11:03
The Issue
It's time for the government to hire a new religious advisor. Your people have narrowed down the candidates to:

The Debate
Catholic Archbishop Lars Mombota: boasts an excellent track record, having rapidly increased church attendances in his constituencies through the "Reaching God Through Guilt" program. Seen as a solid choice.

New Age thinker Akira Jones: a left-field candidate with some radical ideas. "For me, it's not about the name of your religion. It's about discovering your spirituality in whatever guise that takes. Some people call that a cult: I call it taking spirituality to the people."

Finally, there's Pip Washington. "If I am awarded the appointment, I will immediately resign," the ex-schoolteacher has declared. "Because, frankly, God is a big load of hokey. I'll be doing everyone a favor by just shutting up about it."

Does anyone know the effects of each option?

1. He's going to make your nation a lot more religious.
2. He/she will make your nation more 'radical' (as seen on the 'most extreme nations' rankings.)
3. Adversely to 1, he'll make your nation very very atheist.

Does it affect your economy, political freedoms, or civil rights?

2 brought down my civil rights, for some reason.

How does the 1st one affect that stuff?

Number 1 will make your government appear to favor Catholics on your spotlight page. That would seem to make your government more conservative but I don't know if if your civil rights takes a hit or not.

I usually go with number 3 which makes your gov avowedly athiest. Also don't know what that does but it seems that would make you more liberal.

I usually don't go with number two because I don't want the new-age guru thing, but if it made my country more radical, it might be worth it.

does it effect anything on the page where it describes how your country is going.

Tax rates are affected, interestingly enough. I had one nation recently that tried option 1 and taxes went up slightly, from 39% to 41%. While another of my nations that recently did option 3 had taxes go down slightly, from 16% to 14%.

Having them go down slightly for option 3 kind of makes sense, because that's the one where the religious advisor resigns as soon as he/she is appointed. (Must have a pretty high salary to drop the tax rate 2 percentage points, though! 8))

None of the three main categories (Civil Rights, Economy, and Political Freedoms) were visibly affected in either case.

I dismiss it cause I beleive in freedom of choice
