Question: What causes a nation to have 14 year old sales?

Glabladia

Whatever it is, it isn't just the economy rating.
Currently, Glabladia (http://www.nationstates.net/cgi-bin/index.cgi/target=display_nation/nation=glabladia) has a "Good" Economy.
"The average income tax rate is 100%. The private sector is almost wholly made up of enterprising fourteen-year-old boys selling lemonade on the sidewalk, although the government is looking at stamping this out."

That is a LOT of 14 year old lemonade salesman!

Income tax might have something to do with it, but I've had an industry in there before while at 100% tax rate (Book Publishing if I recall correctly)...
Outlawing capitalism might have something to do with it, but Ziinlo (http://www.nationstates.net/cgi-bin/index.cgi/target=display_nation/nation=ziinlo), who also outlawed capitalism, has a Frightening econ.
"Private enterprise is illegal, but for those in the know there is a slick and highly efficient black market in Arms Manufacturing."

So.. what is it based on? My only guess is that the individual ratings of each business in Glabladia are so incredibly low that, even with the economy boost, it is STILL too low to have a primary industry.

If you make private enterprise illegal, this will happen.

From the Tech FAQ:

"My nation is categorized as an Anarchy, but it says I have a huge government!!! WHY?!?!"

There are more then just the three stats displayed involved in creating the description of your nation. There are tons and tons of hidden stats (like enviroment, for example) that determine things like the UN rankings. The stat for 'government involvement' is seperate from the three stats that determine your UN category. If you want a true anarchy (no omnipresent government) then you will have to maintiain about the same current balance of the three public stats, while also reducing government involvement in the nation (or the stat that governs it at least). (by Naleth )

The same applies in this case. The decisions you make in issues give you the descriptors in the last paragraph, but they don't totally change your economy, which is built up over lots of issues.

The Basenji - both of those countries have made private enterprise illegal.

Phoebos - Umm... those aren't from the last paragraph. I know that. Anyways, what you were saying would make sense, if it weren't for the fact that Glabladia jumped 8 categories in economics in the past two days. They are almost ALWAYS at imploded econ, except recently.

Simply put, unless each of the industries have plummeted statwise with the economy increasing at the same time and THAT caused the lemonade run at a good economy, I don't know what causes it.
I'm wanting to know so I can try to get as high of an economy out of lemonade (aka, no major industry) as possible, just to see if I can. :P A good econ making lemonade is already really scary sounding to me, to be honest. How about you? :P

My best guess is that all your industries suck, but you have a good economy .... who knows what it makes though. Probably your economy was increased through non-industry-specific means (assuming that the economy isn't derived from the industries directly .. if that is the case, it's probably more like all your industries are top-of-the-line awful).

My sincerest apologies... I thought you were getting at the fact that you have a good economy whilst having the 'the private sector...' comment.

Yes it is. But not impossible. It's a good economy because, well, the lemonade industry must make quite a bit of money, if the kids are enterprising enough :) So this goes on the official statistics and thus the economy is good.

ziinlo, who also outlawed capitalism, has a Frightening econ.
"Private enterprise is illegal, but for those in the know there is a slick and highly efficient black market in Arms Manufacturing."

This says "frightening" because, well, arms sales generally make more than lemonade :) The economy "ratings" are given based on gross estimations of how much an economy is worth. Given that arms sales (even "black market" ones) are easily traceable, it's quite possible to have a rough idea of how much a country makes by selling them.

So.. what is it based on?

Intelligence. Information gathered by agents, observation, govt. statistics, unofficial statistics etc.

The "economy" rating is based on official stats. So that economy would be "frightening" (based on available stats) and yours would be good.

This would make sense if Frightening was a bad ranking...
