Spiritual Advisor Issue

Why would appointing the atheist lower my civil freedoms? It seems like divorcing religion from the government would raise my civil freedoms, not the other way around.

Ah, why bother? You want the Catholic! That is always a good idea.

Possibly because the atheist one forces people to abandon their religion. Try the new age option.

Actually, the option doesn't state that people are forced to abandon their religion, just that the government won't have a Spiritual Advisor at all.

It also says something along the lines of "I think religion is a bunch of arse". If this is the government position then it goes further than separation of state from religion, the state is saying that religion is wrong and therefore not respecting the views of those who are religious.

From the spoiler list:

3. Finally, there's @@RANDOMNAME@@. "If I am awarded the appointment, I will immediately resign," the ex-schoolteacher has declared. "Because, frankly, God is a big load of hokey. I'll be doing everyone a favor by just shutting up about it."

I think there's a big step between saying "God is a big load of hokey" and declaring religion illegal.

I had the issue, I went with the teacher who vowed to resign. It had 0 effect on any of my stats.

The decision does not result in an extreme change. I've appointed the atheist every time in my nation of over 2 billion and my civil rights are at frightening. There is still a change though, because there have been times when this was the only issue I had, and I come back when the issue has taken effect to see that the decision has nudged my civil freedoms just enough to make it one level lower.

...or if none of the options work you can just dismiss the whole issue.

Not really sure how this all works yet, but by having an athiest as a spiritual advisor just blocked the possibility for any other religion to thrive considering Athiesm doesn't believe in a God what so ever. I could be way off base but could be in the ball park.

being atheist lowers your civil rights because if people can't worship then civil rights go down

Actually the issue refers to spiritual advisor rather than religious advisor. We of LostParadise feel that the human spirit is a warm and gentle thing. We appoint a spiritual advisor to nurture the warmth and sensuality of our young. It allows them to share each other to the fullest both emotionally and sexually.

You can't appoint an athiest [like myself] a spiritual advisor. If you did, the post of spiritual advisor would be in name only. I don't care. The point is that all people should have the right to worship freely. I think it shouldn't matter [except to the extreme religous right] who you appoint to that post.
