Title: Christmas is Here! Or is it?

Description: Many extremist groups are crying out that christmas should be cancelled. A representitive from each of these groups has said, or rather shouted, their reasons to you. Now your nation has turned to you to decide what should be done.

Validity: Valid for all. Sent to all on Dec 25th.

Options:

[option]"Christmas is not what it once was," says Extremist Religious Leader @@RANDOMNAME@@. "It is no longer a celebration of the birth of Christ, but a place where people have fun instead of praising the lord, this cannot continue. Ban Christmas, if you can call it that."
[effect]Christmas has been banned on the grounds of forgotten origins
[stats]Economy decrease, Public happiness decreases.

[option]"Its not only that!" argues @@NATIONNAME@@ Communist Party Leader @@RANDOMNAME@@. "The fact is, Christmas is now just another way for corrupt big business to take the peoples hard earned money from them when they buy their christmas presents, not only should it be banned, so should the corrupt businesses!!"
[effect]Christmas has been banned, as has any form of large business.
[stats]Economy takes a nose dive. But public happiness only drops a little. Equality rises.

[option]"All you reasons are good reasons, my friends," says
@@RANDOMNAME@@, a slightly odd man. "But there is one reason above all these that means that christmas MUST be cancelled. It was never true! Jesus wasn't born, because he never existed! Therefore our whole basis of thes 'christmas' is based on a lie, a falsehood! Ban it now, it is pointless!"
[effect]Christmas has been banned, and most people feel they have been lied to by the government and the church for all these years...
[stats]Government size decreases, nation becomes much less devout, economy drops.

[option]"WHAT!!" shouts a large man, dressed in red with white. "You want christmas BANNED!? This is maddness! I...er people need Christmas! Without it I'd..er alot of people would be out of jobs, think of the reindeer... er people!!"
[effect]Christmas is being celebrated all around the nation, and St Nick seems very happy, if not a little un-settled...
[stats] Economy rises a little. And public happiness rises.

[option]"I don't mind Christmas," says a religous and fair looking man. "I just feel we should celebrate more lesser know days, such as hannuka and the like, then we'd all enjoy ourselves that much more.."
[effect]All manner of celebrations are celebrated in the nation now.
[stats]Economy stays same, public happiness rises lots

[option]Lastly, a little voice, your conscience, says, "I know a lot of your nation want it banned, but what about the meaning? The togetherness? The love? Keep it, let the day stay, and make it a Christmas to remember!!"
[effect]Christmas is being celebrated all over the nation, and the public are Loving it!
[stats]public happiness hits the roof, political freedoms drop a little, and economy rise some.

The issue seems too centred around Christians. If you include an issue about celebrating Chanukkah (sp?), it would be complete IMO, but six would be a lot of choices. Overall the effects don't seem strong enough, and I envision people will dismiss this issue. It's a good idea, but it still needs refining.

Lastly, shouldn't option 4 cause devoutness to rise?

I like it. Doesn't Christmas conflict with church and state. The states business shut down and schools because of a religious holiday. Maybe that should be an option. Never mind that I love it the way it is. :)

Doesn't seem like quite enough of a trade-off...remember that each issue should have pros and cons. Though I find it a little extreme to have three options banning Christmas, especially one that denies that Jesus ever existed (you can deny his divinity, but to deny that Jesus ever existed is more tha just a stretch because historical records state clearly that a man we now know as Jesus did exist in the time of the Roman Empire.) So my suggestion would be to replace Option 3 with an option to, say, recognize other holidays such as Ramadan, Kwanzaa, and my personal favorite, Chanukah (no, I am not Jewish, but a close friend of mine is, and personally I like his holiday better than Christmas anyway. Not as commercialized, ifyouknowwhatImean.) Or possibly the idea of creating a new holiday for that time of year or celebrating a made-up one such as Decemberween (all you Homestar Runner fans would understand that one.)

Option 3 Re-do.

@@RANDOMNAME@@, a slightly odd man. "But there is one reason above all these that means that christmas MUST be cancelled. It was never true! Jesus was in now way 'god-like'! He was just a carpenters son! Therefore our whole basis of this 'christmas' is based on a lie, a falsehood! We must replace this celebration with a real one, I'd suggest Pizzamas, at least that really exists..."
[effect]Christmas has been banned but a new day celebrating Pizza has been made, and most people feel they have been lied to by the government and the church for all these years...
[stats]Government size decreases, nation becomes much less devout, pizza sales increase.

Chirstmas nowadays in the United States might as well be called "Donare Day." People give and recieve stuff, mostly parents to children. There's little or no Christian element to it.

the effects are more or less the same try to get rid of some options or merge them and think of some new ideas and your right about the fact that it won't be seen until christmas next year if you tweak it and send it in by this christmas

The problem with this issue is that there are too many choices, and most say basically the same thing.

You might as well add a seventh and eighth option, the result of which read, "christmas is celebrated but red christmas lights are banned" and "christmas is celebrated, but green christmas lights are banned." :P

Also, something about the wording of the effects strikes me as... bad. They should be shorter and more to the point, in my opinion.

I am sorry but all out there who want to ban christmas (and i didnt really read it all properly because i couldnt stomach the inane reasons for banning christmas) in fairness get a grip think of all the happiness tra la la it brings- THINK OF THE CHILDREN!!!!!!and stop this insanity and live forever in the reflected happy glow of christmas jingle bells and what have you!

Title: Christmas is Here! Or is it?

Description: Many groups are crying out that Christmas should be cancelled. A representative from each of these groups has said, or rather shouted, their reasons to you. Now your nation has turned to you to decide what should be done.

Validity: Valid for all. Sent to all on Dec 18th.

Options:

[option]"Christmas is not what it once was," says Religious Leader @@RANDOMNAME@@. "It is no longer a celebration of the birth of Christ, but a time when materialism is lord instead of Jesus. Ban Christmas, or at least call it something that reflects what it has become. Greed Day, perhaps. Or Retail Revenue Rescue Day."
[effect]Christmas has been banned on the grounds of forgotten origins
[stats]Economy decrease, Public happiness decreases.

[option]"Its not only that!" argues @@NATIONNAME@@ Communist Party Leader @@RANDOMNAME@@. "Christmas is now just another way for corrupt big business to take the peoples hard earned money. Not only should it be banned, so should large business!!"
[effect]Christmas has been banned, as has any form of large business.
[stats]Economy takes a nose dive. But public happiness only drops a little. Equality rises.

[option]"I don't mind Christmas," says a seemingly reasonable man. "I just feel we should all be free to celebrate other religious holidays such as Hannuka, Kwanzaa, Diwali and the like, then we'd all enjoy ourselves that much more.. Who cares if we don't have any knowledge of the religions behind them or the ideas they represent?"
[effect]All manner of celebrations are celebrated in the nation now
[stats]Economy stays same, public happiness rises lots

[option]"Why not have a holiday in January or February instead of December? That stretch between Christmas and Easter can be up to 4 months, and Thanksgiving and Christmas are too close together. We've got New Year's Day as a holiday already. Why not have Valentine's Day as the official Big Winter Holiday?"
[effect]Worker productivity rises through December as fewer people are tied up in Christmas parties, drinking and general fluffy-headedness. More evenly spaced holidays prevents worker burnout.
[stats]Economy rises moderately, public happiness rises

It's WAY too long. I like all the choices, they just seem redundent.

My suggestion:
