Name: "We Want Elections and We Want Them Now!"

Description: Angry crowds formed yesterday around government offices in @@NAME@@, demanding the reinstatement of free and fair elections.

Validity: Only for nations with either banned elections or low political freedoms (or both)

Options:

[option]"Elections!? Have they gone mad!? We can't possibly allow the rabble such a degree of control over this country!" shouts red-faced government hard-liner @@RANDOMNAME@@. "We need to call out the army. Tell them to clear away these scum, and none of these wussy rubber bullets, either - live ammo all the way!"
[effect]suppression of pro-democracy protests is a daily occurrence
[stats]political freedoms plummet, defence spending increases, government size increases

[option]"I must respectfully disagree with my colleague here," says government strategist @@RANDOMNAME@@. "Shooting protestors never makes for good PR. Instead, why don't we just take the problem out of the public eye by forbidding the media to report these rallies?"
[effect]the media are banned reporting on pro-democracy rallies
[stats]civil rights go down, apathy increases

[option]"This is a most disturbing development." says concerned Finance Minister @@RANDOMNAME@@. "Unless carefully managed, these protests will totally destabilise the country. We'll have to give them their elections - but that's no reason to let them elect anyone else. Think of it as an opportunity to demosntrate our popular support."
[effect]recent one-sided elections has cost the government all remnants of public trust
[stats]Corruption increases, apathy increases, size of government decreases

[option]"Shut up, you fascist twerps!" shouts demonstration leader @@RANDOMNAME@@, before hurling another volley of eggs. "Without elections, this country will never be free, and we demand our freedom! The government must immediately commit itself to free and fair elections within the year, or face the wrath of the people!"
[effect]@@NAME@@'s first free elections in recent memory have been successfully concluded
[stats]political freedoms shoot up, corruption goes down, elections are enabled (if not already), government size increases

Well, for option four, what about something like
"Sure we can hold elections. Of course, that doesn't mean there have to be other people to vote for." (or something else implying the elections are throughly rigged). with the effect being "one-sided elections have caused the public to lose all faith in the government" or something.

Good idea, I'll replace option #4 with that one...

I also removed #3, as it was really just the same approach (make some token concessions, but nothing of substance).

Good, put pros and cons for all options both, even tho you're putting a pro on "Kill the protestors".

This issue already exists. It's called "People Request Not So Much Dictatorship, If That's All Right."

That one's about a different matter (political prisoners as opposed to elections), and doesn't allow you to re-legalise elections.

Well I had to give it some kind of benefit, but I can't really think of any pros for #2 & #3; ideas?
