Changing Sectors

11-11-2003, 00:52
Are there any issues that can change the industrial sectors listed in the national profile (I'm getting sick of Woodchips and Pizza-Delivery, I'd like to see something like Arms Manufacturing, Information Tech or Gambling)?

Well, choosing choices that benifit one of the sectors more then others will boost that sector. For example, if you allow uranium mining in the forest, then it will boost the uranium mining (and possibly regular mining) industries. I'd also be not breaking up/helping Microcosm in Loop's issue raises IT.

If I allow uranium mining only once it shouldn't turn my country into a barren, inhospitable wasteland, right?

If you want your Mining Sector to be decent you're gonna have to sacrifice your Environment because the issues that improve it hurt the economy.

Once might not, but if you value the environment there are better sectors to boost then mining. Most of the Pro-military issues will boost arms manufacturing, for instance, and probably only do minimal harm to the environment if any. Chosing pro-IT (yay for my major industry!) shouldn't hurt the environment at all.

Also, here is a list of all the industries (not all have issues that modify them, though):
Arms Manufacturing
Book Publishing
Automobile Manufacturing
Uranium Mining
Information Technology
Cheese Exports
Pizza Delivery
Gambling
Retail Sector
Timber Industry
Door-to-Door Insurance Sales
Furniture Restoration
Soda Sales
Beef-Based Agriculture
Trout Farming
Woodchip Exports
General Mining
Basket Weaving

Obviously things like Timber and Mining will hurt the environment, while IT and gambling wont affect it at all. Ditto for the rather jokish ones (although yours are among those :P)

Heh heh yeah, I got two of the stupid ones unfortunately. There used to be a Cheese Export Sector but it got bumped out by Automobile Manufacturing (happiest NS day of my life)

Anyone know how to boost the cheese export sector? I currently have Uranium Mining, but it would be great to have the cheese one. :D

I dunno, but I'm glad that I have IT as my major industry for now. It is one of three industries that I want to do anything with besides crash as badly as I have my general economy. :P

I think that my space funding might be what made my major industry IT.

Is there like a bug that isturing everybody into Left-Leaning Colledge States? :?

(After all for every one issue I do that is ggod for my economic freedoms there are about 2 dozen to hurt them. (In fact I have answered three questions which would raise my economic freedoms, and one more that would lower them while raising my economy {I was bored and wanted tosee what it would do to my corporate welfare rating: nothing noticeable}))

This is getting weird. . .

Stephistan too. *shrug*

I'm pretty sure what triggered mine was this:
Euthanasia is legal, elevator music has been replaced by thrash metal played at maximum volume, employers may fire workers without giving any reason, and anti-government web sites are springing up.
Ah well...maybe it's telling us to stop playing NationStates and concentrate on our schoolwork :?:

Actually, that's not true. Of the options, the only one that hurts your economy is the wishy-washy one where one attempts to doze only part of the rainforest. If you protect the rainforest you get a slight economic boost due to ecotourism ("tourists come from around the world to visit the (?)rainforests").

For arms manufacturing chose the boost military options on the military issues.

For IT, there are some computer issues but I noticed that selecting the education options on issues seems to move the manufacturing sector toward IT.

Gambling has its own issue and the choice is obvious.

Is there like a bug that isturing everybody into Left-Leaning Colledge States? It's not a bug. You're being whipsawed by your UN membership. Each time one of those resolution passes the effect on your nation is not the language of the resolution but the category the writer picked. For example, the one on ocean dumping didn't decrease the amount of dumping in the ocean; it screwed your economy while boosting your invisible nation statistics on ecology.

That does not explain the rise in economic freedoms (my economy has been imploded since day three, with only a brief rise to "Weak" when I accidently privatized beaches before I smashed it back down.).

Oddly I am now an Inoffensive Centrist Democracy.
