The Economic Collapse Looms! Issue

Rondebosch
31-10-2003, 11:16
I just received this issue (for the first time), and would like to pick the second option, but was hoping someone could give me the idea of what the consequences of doing so are (because, honestly, in the real world my government would set the consequences/certain terms before encouraging business back). If it's ok, to my mind and ideals, I'll pick it. If not, I'll use another method to adjust my economy and tax rates. Well, you know, I'll try.

The first option seems to suggest that there will be environmental consequences to picking the second option, but I've learnt the hard way, as we all have, that that may not necessarily be the case.

Unless this is cheating (to ask)?

I'm just so tired of dismissing issues all the time...

[The issue, for those unfamiliar with it]

Economic Collapse Looms!

The Issue

Big business, fed up with over-regulation in Rondebosch, are heading offshore in ever-increasing numbers.

The Debate

"Good riddance!" says noted environmentalist Freddy O'Bannon. "Sniff that air! It's never been so clean! At last, our society is freeing itself from the consumer death-trap! I say it's time to take the final step and outlaw capitalism once and for all!"
[Accept]

"This is a catastrophe waiting to happen," says the Chamber of Commerce. "Think of the consequences! Without big business, where do the jobs come from? Where do we get our medicine? Our cars? Our latest fashions? There are dozens of useless regulations the government could abolish today to make life easier for commerce, and it's high time they did."

I've always picked the second option, or dismissed, and my economy is very strong.

I'm just worried that I may end up with a barren, inhospitable landscape. :) About the only thing going for my country at the moment, besides civil rights, is (what I hope is) a stunning environment (and smart people). I don't want to pick option two and find that polution is permanently choking the life out of my citizens, or a rainforest has been destroyed to make way for an automobile plant.

I think the uranium mining option has far larger effects on the enviro than this issue.

Ok. I'm going to grit my teeth, pick option 2, and, possibly, cry on Monday when I see the results.

I don't think you'll be crying. :)

I dunno. I picked the "gay activist" guy for the Supreme Court a day or two ago (before the UN resolution passed), to protect civil rights and privacy and such, and my political freedoms dropped from average to below average (I understand why, but I thought it was a bit extreme), my tax rate went up (again!), and I switched from Scandinavian Liberal Paradise (which Rondebosch is most of the time) to Democratic Socialists.

I realise it was probably a bit of an accumulative effect from other things (although I don't know how, since I've been dismissing so much lately - due to not having a viable option for my nation), but still. I mean, I was not amused. (I know that's the game - please, no lectures from people!)

I've stayed in Frightening/Frightening/Excellent for quite a while now, though I've alternated UN categories between Left-Leaning, Capitalizt, and Anarchy. I was even Civil Rights Lovefest for two or three days.

Heh, heh. In my other nation, I'm glad that I've allowed the people to elect the justices. I'll be ticked off if my political rights of my other nation fell.

Well, I've learnt the hard way that that's what I must do in future.

Anyway, my choice for the Economic Collapse Looms! issue has now made me an Inoffensive Centrist Democracy, which is cool (The Most Glorious Hack: you were right - I bow in honour of your magnificent etc).

Now I just have to get that economy off imploded, and my health care up. Geez...
