[title]A Woman's Right or A Crime Against God?

[description]Many from the Religious-Right call for the illegalization of Abortion.

[validity] For all nations

[option]"Killing babies is a crime against God!" says Pastor @@RANDOMNAME@@. "The unborn are people too! End this travesty!"
[effects]Abortion is punishable by death
[stats]Population increases at a slightly greater rate, crime rate and unhappiness increase, civil rights go down

[option]"A woman has a right to her body!" says Feminist @@RANDOMNAME@@. "The government cannot violate her like this!"
[effects]Women frequently have abortions
[stats]inverse of 1st option

[option]"Perhaps abortions should only be legal before 6 months into the pregnacy." Suggests Civil Rights activist @@RANDOMNAME@@. "After all, babies are self-aware untile the third trimester, right?"
[effects]Abortions are only legal in the first six months of pregnacy
[stats]Milder inverse of 1st option

[option]"Why are women having children at all?" Asks Science-Fiction writer @@RANDOMNAME@@. "We have the technology now to grow fetuses out of the womb. If the state could breed children, we'd be able to create a utopia!"

just submitted it

I disagree with the effect of the first one.

It does not take into account culpability and what not. I am against abortion in all cases, but I would not what the death penalty for a rape victim who did it under duress.

It is also biased. There is more bad effects with the first than the others.

Didn't read the effects. As to suggestions, I would suggest trying to make thing more entertaining. I know it is hard, on an issue such as this. But thus far it seems the game is all about caricatures.

Dunno, might not be possible on such a serious issue, just throwing it out there.

Way too short...others have already submitted abortion-related issues that give more "meat" to the issue, and thus would probably be preferred by the mods to work on. Also, I'm not sure if you can adjust the population growth rate. Not to mention your issue seems very biased against pro-lifers.

I don't like the way it is formulated. The first option could be rather something like:
'Save the unborn babies!' says pastor @@RANDOMNAME@@ in a furious manner "If you are killing unborn children, you show not the least respect for life. In this case, you are nothing more than a murderer and should be punished like this!"
[effect]abortion is considered murder

The way you gave the options, it just listed opinions without the typical NS-touch.

To my knowledge, population increase/decrease rate is something issues can't touch.

Okay, the poopulation increase/decrease rate is unalterable. Fine. The effect of the first one is just a joke. We'll see if it passes, and if itdoesn't, oh well.

When the issue submission started, I submitted an abortion issue that was pro-choice, pro-life, and abortion only in certain circumstances.

Now, which Mod do I have to bribe to get it going?

By the way, here it is:

Protesters from all over the region have chartered buses to come and protest abortion in @@NATION@@

[option]"This is my body, and therefore my right to choose what I can and can't do with it!" @@RANDOMNAME@@ yells from the crowd to the nearest guy in a suit. "Why, if abortion wasn't legal, you'd have a lot more single mothers waiting around in line for welfare checks every week. Think of the children!"
[effect]abortion is legal in all forms
[stats]civil rights increase

[option]"Think of the children! There won't be any left if you liberals keep aborting them all!" Staunch conservative @@RANDOMNAME@@ yells out from his podium. "Abortion has no place at all. Who are we to question what God wants us to do with our bodies? If he gives us children, we're damn well going to have them!"
[effect]abortion is banned
[stats]civil rights drastically decrease, economy decreases a little, religion and spirituality increases a little

[option]"She does make a point," says a lone voice in the group. "You do have a right to choose. However, that choice starts the minute you decide to take off your pants. Abortion is for those who don't have the common sense to know when to zip up! We should make it legal only in the case of rape, or if the mother's life is at risk."
[effect]abortions are only done in the rarest of cases
[stats]civil rights decrease a little

I like mathias' better because it has the better moderate position that allows it in cases of rape or mother's health. SI's moderate option of allowing it up to the end of the 2nd trimester is too long, just the first trimester would be a better compromise, plus his effects aren't totally accurate or unbiased.

Mathias issue seems biased to me. The side-effects of the 2nd and 3rd options should be positive somewhere, and the first one ought to have a negative somewhere. Otherwise it isn't fair.

I like this issue. I was thinking of creating an abortion issue myself.
28-10-2003, 11:41
There are quite a few abortion-related issues in the stack already. I don't know how good/fair/balanced/entertaining they all are, but I'd be stunned if we don't already at least have a serviceable issue on abortion just waiting to be coded.

Not that I'm trying to curtail things here, just explaining it from a moderator point of view.

Good...I look forward to seeing them! :D
