The Issues Forum!

[reploidproductions]
24-10-2003, 06:28
Istar recommended a forum for discussion of issues. So, long story short, the mods discussed it, and we all agreed, "DUDE! This is a good idea!" So, a little forum admin magic later, voila!

Just some rules of thumb for this forum:

This forum is for discussion of the daily issues. The idea is that players can bounce issue ideas off eachother prior to submission, discuss new issues with the mods, and generally try to figure out the repurcussions of what you choose.

So... yeah, all issues, all the time!

an issues forum, great. now all we need is a current events forum so when I visit general I don't have to hear how bush is a nazi (even though that's debatable)

Yes, we will only add issues to the game that have been officially submitted.

Weooo! Fun! Party!

Shouldn't the Technical forum's description be changed a bit though? It shouldn't have the 'ideas for improvements' part.

Ideas for improvement of NationStates itself should still be posted in the Technical forum.

So, not a biggie, but a question for this new forum. I posed a new issues suggestion for others to comment on, and have got a few comments.

But someone just posted a new Issue suggestion in my thread. Can there be some sort of something so that if someone does so, that it can be broken into a new thread. I think it is an accident, partially because I chose a vague thread title. But I think such a protocol might be good to put in place, excpet for cases such as the Issues thread you guys pulled into here (http://www.nationstates.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=53919).

Dunno, just thought I would throw it out there.

Cool idea for a forum! Hopefully, this should see the rise of more and more new issues.

We need a thread declaring what the effects are of various issues... The latter two options for "tools for tykes" seem the same to me...

don't you think nations should be able to wage ware on each other?
that would make the game much more interesting and much more realistic in some ways. However, people could get carried away and declare war on everyone and get to be annoying, but maybe there could be restrictions...i don't know but i thought it would be interesting.

Not in NS1, possibly in NS2.

I've got lots of issues, but not the kind that can be dealt with here.

But it would be nice to know if there's a way to repeal that UN resolution requiring nations to join a military build-up to fight terrorism.

Then the fun will be taken out of the game.

No, I don't think it will. If you don't want to know, don't read the thread. But threads detailing effects happen all the time.

In one issue, I forget the name, the only two options are to either:
A: ) execute political activists, or
B: ) hold democratic elections.
I think there should be a third which allows political activists to voice their concerns, but which does not provide for elections. I've come to the conclusion that people are too stupid to govern themselves, but sometimes someone comes up with some good suggestions which I'd be more than willing to hear. If a mod could modify that issue, I'd be most pleased. Sorry I can't provide more information, and sorry if this is the wrong place to suggest a modification.

Eh, we don't do modifications to issues, but feel free to write your own one that allows you to do that as an option. :)

I wouldn't have thought so, that torture one didn't, but then again that isn't auite the same.

What would be the best way to make slight changes to an issue that I recently submitted? Should I sumbit the changed version of the issue a second time or post the changes here or...?

Is there a different way to take depending on whether the change adds an option or just changes the wording?
Sirocco

Maybe this is something that could be considered for NS 3.0, but what about setting things up so that if you don't agree with any option offered on an issue, but have a "better" idea, that you can submit that idea as an additional option and/or enact that option for your country. The "catch" being that the additional option must be approved in a manner similar to that, that is required for approval of new issues (this would be needed to make sure that issues didn't end up with 100's of different options, many of which were stupid or country specific as opposed to generaly applicable to all countries). Just my $0.02 cents worth.
