"Stop my children from looking at smut! These artists are only perverts pretending to be artists! Think of the children!" says Dave Winters, mother of three and proud member of Mothers Promoting Purity. "These artists are only going to rouse our innocent children to commit grotesque acts of immorality! Get rid of it all!"

I know its @@RANDOMNAME@@, yet I found it funny.

It happens all of the time.

What I think was really funny was when in the beach privatization issue, "Buy Utopia" was urging me to privatise beaches.

Edit: oh, and isn't this the wrong forum?

Does @@RANDOMNAME@@ just pick a different name for the character in question each time?

What exactly does @@RANDOMNAME@@ do,a nd when is it used precisely? Thx.

It generates a random name every time it is called. No two calls are related at all. Hence it changing between displays of the issue, and also the potential for the same name to appear in multiple places.

Dol you have to use @@RANDOMNAME@@ when submitting issues? Can you simply make up a name, that could be used or edited if not liked?

I know. That always seemed weird.

It certainly seems to be recommended - even if just for the sake of creating variety in the issues. That said, I think one of the older issues has a name which doesn't change, but I can't think what it is.

The Euthenasia issue perhaps?

I am not sure if just Bob V Doug is what is going to keep people interested. It seems to me that, if the lighting is hot, that humor is the likely thing to keep people interested, and the issues seem to reflect this. They are funny.

Let me ask this. If I were to put some issues with name suggestions, would this be enough to keep an issue from being good (this is biting the big one to assume it was a good suggestion, so don't take that in consideration). I have no itention to fight @@RANDOMNAME@@ for every suggestion, just want to see if I drop a suggestion for a name if that will keep the issue from being honestly considered.

I would asume if you don't like my suggestion, editing can simply take effect.

Thanks.

Thanks for the reminder, yes it was the euthanasia issue.

In relation to editing and the @@RANDOMNAME@@ macro, that shouldn't count against a good issue. In fact, I've come across a series of player-submitted issues which are very well-written and should be great in the game but they just happen to have the macros written in wrongly. In that situation, they'd most likely just be edited and put into the game.
If you actually go so far as to put in a name, then that would obviously be considered in the editing process. If the sense of the issue is lost by possibly having the leader of a company not being called Bob, then my understanding is that the leader would keep his name.

I've also noticed that the line "Think of the children!" has become a common phrase in the issues.. It's supposed to be funny? It mostly annoyes me.
29-10-2003, 14:57
I suppose that's one reason that my own issue (submitted, but neither approved nor rejected thus far) doesn't have that phrase ;-). Also, it's probably why all the people in that issue are gender-neutral (though a female military advisor is a bit unusual, it's not as farfetched as it used to be).
