Racism in Moderation

"I do not recognize cavemen in caravans as racist talks. If I think about caravan people I'm certainly not thinking in colours. Beside, the stereotype in movies and book general colour them white. When I'm thinking about caravan people, I have the image of rude, brutal, vulgar and simple people in front of me."

Kryo shut down the other (Personal insult) thread before I had a chance to post a response to this.

How is this okay?

This is a racist attack against my heritage - I do not accept that it's okay just because it's not about colo(u)r.

Indeed, and she was called on it -- by me.

This is her follow up to the one you questioned as a 'racist snipe' - but I guess it does satisfy that question. It (now) is obvious it was racism in the first instance.

How can it be racism when I explicit made clear that I do not think in colours when I am thinking about cavemen in caravans?

You just read what you want to read, isn't?

Because 'race' and 'colo(u)r' are not the same thing.

My ethnic heritage is in 'caravans', and you seem to be using my people as an insult - a term you use to describe people that are incredibly lowbrow and unsophisticated.

No, you know very well that it was not my intention.

You take it out context. I used the phrase after one was swearing around to make his (non)-opinion stronger.

In no way I said that ALL caravan people are lowbrow unsophisticated or somehow.

Racism is dealing about races and thus colours. Cavemen or caravan people or even both are not races.

This is just ridiculous.

The 'context' is irrelevant.

So, if my neighbor is genetically 'black', but can be taken for white - it's okay to call him a ni**er, because it can't be racist?

My people are 'caravan people'.

Context isn't irrelevant because you are saying it.

Pfft, this is an over the top unrealistic and ridiculous example.

But I'll answer anyway...

If you call him ni**er and you know he's genetically black then you could be considered as a racist, yes.

My people are 'caravan people'.

And all caravan people are Romani people?

I wasn't pointing at the Romani people, but at the stereotype bully you often see in movies.

Your use of it was intended as a snipe. The fact you claim you don't mean all, doesn't change that fact.

Racism is dealing about races and thus colours.

You might want to think that one through. Color is only part of the equation. Culture and the view of ones culture being superior drives it more.

It's not Cavemen or caravan people or even both are not races.

This is just ridiculous.

So a Neanderthal is a homo sapian?

Context is irrelevant because NSG doesn't have an 'it's okay to be racist IF...' clause.

Which movie? The only example I can think of of a 'caveman' (that is, thuggish and unsophisticated, right?) type character that lives in a 'caravan' IS a knock on Romani people.

It's Homo Sapiens. Not all cavemen were Neanderthal. We counted once far more Cro-Magnon people, which were the Homo Sapiens of the Paleolithic era.

It should be the first time in history that one is accused of racism against Neanderthal.

Sorry, do this silly debate without me, because it's almost killing me.
