Uncalled for?

I know it's up to the offended to post a perceived offense, but after scanning the thread for any kind of "just kidding", I have to ask about the following:

No smiley, but then again, the one it's directed at doesn't seem put out, either. Is that a wash, or is a flame, is a flame, is a flame?

*blows the dust off his ancient mod had* Cough cough cough.

Well if I had to make a call, it's pretty darn close to being a flame. Especially if you read the comment without reading the thread.

However, I could see it as he was calling him stupid for thinking abuse is ok. Still not the right way to handle it.

Thanks.

If it seems you've seen a lot of me recently, it's because after my run-in with Hairless, I'm just making sure I have empirical evidence for where the lines are...evidence better than "that's not what I remember...", given how atrocious my memory is.

Ah, okay. For detail, then: yes, it's a flame, because it's an insult aimed at the player, not the argument.

Two caveats, though: "stupid", by itself, doesn't seem to me to be a particularly terrible flame. If it's a oncer, not part of a pattern of abuse, I'm disinclined to clobber anyone too hard for the word alone.

In this case I think it was a more or less reflex bit of smart-alecky comment set off by someone asking for a personal opinion. On an internet forum. Right. It wasn't the best answer, but it wasn't the best question, either.

Thanks for the detail, Ard- uh, Your Modliness. I'm looking into thought process on this stuff because I'm thinking of throwing my hat into the Mod ring at some point.

One hint: Moderators don't tend to choose new mods when players express active interest in becoming moderators.

If you're particularly helpful and you keep your nose clean, you might get noticed for a Modly role.
