"Someone I don't know..." thread removal

This thread has been removed recently, and indeed rightly so, for it was filled with a failed threadjack attempt.

As I'm not fully sure if it was removed because of the spam content, or because of original content, I'd like to ask whether the original point was a problem, to know if I can still follow up on the question.

I understand it could be, as the thread was heavy on sarcasm. In that case, I'll explain. The name - "Whoa! Someone I don't know did something I don't care about!" - was an universal formula for the typical news headline.
So, the thread was asking a question of whether the reader reacts to such news, in newspaper or on a forum, and if so, how and why. Or, more generally, why do people sometimes bother to discuss news they don't care about.

If asking such a question is not illegal, I would like to check for an okay before creating a thread addressing it again. If it's needed, I can phrase it more clearly. If such a question is considered off limits, I won't.

Because it was mostly spam, and I don't feel like weeding today, plus I had already fired up my blow torch. Feel free to make a new one on the topic.
