so I have reason to believe one of the mods is giving out a list of nations I control to other nation owners, this comes up when Im getting contact from people about some of my other nations when that info is not public knowledge

What is your grounds for this?

Do you know who may be doing this?

If you've ever disclosed this information to anyone in your region, they could also be the ones giving it out. I noted that your region has a forum. If you've ever posted anything about puppets there, then chances are a person got that information from there.

In any event, could you give more details?

someone not on my forum not in my region has info about nations that I have that I dont even talk about and he along with at least one other person has claimed to be friends with mods and that he can get what ever he wants

Could you disclose the player in question so that appropriate action can be taken?

I suggest that you report the player via: Getting Help (http://www.nationstates.net/page=help).

Be sure to explain in detail what has happened and who the player is. If you have any telegrams related to this, do not delete those and include that in your report so that the mods can take necessary action.

I also doubt this player and his little buddy are "friends" with any mod. It sounds like he's just trying to rationalise his actions.

Not to mention we'd be in a heap of trouble with the Boss if we outed people's puppets without sufficient reason. The only time a mod will out a puppet and the puppetmaster is generally in cases where the person is seriously abusing them to gang up on another player in a debate or RP or something like that; even then, we rarely need to reveal anybody.

Additionally, do you post with multiple nations on the forums (both ours and your regional one?) If the posting style is similar, some people can figure it out themselves that two or more nations are controlled by the same player.

What about posting on the regional message boards, other forums, telegrams anything? Anywhere they could connect the different writing styles?

(seriously, that's how most of my puppets got caught)

no the nation/nations in question I have never talked about one of them I only use in regions where new nations are founded the only nation of my others one I really talk on is my oldest nation and I tell people about that one but not all of my nations some I like to keep a secret, personal reasons.

Please let us know the details as soon as possible via the Getting Help Page (http://www.nationstates.net/page=help). Once entered there, there is a permanent log that cannot be altered or deleted but is available for viewing by the moderation and administration teams.

A belief that there is private information being disseminated is a serious matter for us, because players need to be assured that they are treated fairly and that no other player has an unfair advantage.

We are anxious to receive any help and information you can give us on this matter.

If you really want to start an investigation, I'd start with that person. I've not seen a single confirmed incident of any mod providing anybody with confidential game information since I started modding. I routinely scan mod activity logs to see what the other mods are working on, and to see if they need any help. Activity of that nature would jump off the page like it was jabbed with a hot poker.

As to the idea of players exploiting their friendship with me .... ha. Hahahah ... heh heh heh hehehehehe .... heh.

Not bloody likely.

I'd love to know which players are friends with Moderators. I'm surely not friends with any!

On a serious note, in the event I were friends with a moderator, I'd neither want nor expect confidential game information. Except the identity of Max's nation. ;)

As for the OP's accusation, it belongs on Getting Help. This thread should never have existed IMO.

Yeah, but it did. And if the first mod to happen on it had deleted it (even with the best of intentions, to re-post in Getting Help), I guarantee it would still have been seen by someone else first. And then how long would it take for the "mods covering up for (insert name here)" rumours to bounce round the offsites and IMs? Better people know what we're up to.

(Those who have the slightest interest in the mods, anyway. Happily, if we're doing our job properly, few do.)

Whadda mean 'few do', Ard? I'm all ready to start up "Who Wants to Date a Mod?" in General due to popular demand!
*And I'm willing to bet that after I post this, someone WILL make such a thread*

Myrth did, and confessed to it as well. So it does happen, albeit extremely rarely.

Anyway, good luck to the mod team in investigating this issue.

Oh hush you! That doesn't count. :p

Wasn't that where [violet] publicly announced his discipline? And didn't Myrth step down as a result of that?

When it has happened, we've heard about it because the Mods made it known.

I remember that. Officially, Myrth retired.

(I'm not going to go further than that :P )

I do have a hard time to believe any of the current (game) mods would do something like this.

If anyone, including Reseda Island, has more info on the matter, please let mods know via Getting Help.

As a couple of posters are already gearing up to boldly go off into the Spamosphere, this thread is temporarily closed -- temporarily as in, "let's see what happens".
