It's an idiotic grandstand by extreme Bush-haters that as much chance of actually happening as Osama bin Laden being declared a Catholic saint.

That putz of a prosecutor needs to lay off the sangria. However, it is good for a laugh as another example of self-righteous Euro-leftie stupidity.

Given that a large percentage of our membership is composed of Europeans of a leftist bent, wouldn't this be considered a flame (or at least a flamebait)?

No. NM has expressed his opinion of an action taken by a European. He considers it stupid. He also considers it a leftist action.

NM is allowed to have opinions on these subjects. Mods are not obliged to protect others from the large group "Europeans" from NM's opinions, even when it may include some NS players. Mods are not obliged to protect others from the large group "lefties", which may include some NS players, from NM's opinions [edit: when they're expressed within the rules].

Perhaps you need to mull over the definition of "flamebait":
Flamebait: Posts that are made with the aim of angering someone indirectly. Not outright flame, but still liable to bring angry replies. Flame baiting is a far more subtle and covert action; it is an underhanded tactic that is designed to provoke a response from another player. It's in the same context of trolling but with flamebaiting it's just the one person.

I've bolded the two criteria that NM's post doesn't meet.

There may be some argument that "stupid" and "Euro-leftie" are liable to bring angry replies. I can only say that, if these very general statements, not personally addressed, cause anger in an individual player, that player really does need to grow a skin.

EDIT: Nor do I consider it sufficiently provocative to be trolling or trollbait aimed at the group "European players who are also lefties". He is clearly referring to the prosecutor's action.

Fair enough.
