Would appreciate if a mod looked at this deleted post: http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?p=14545448#post14545448

Especially its deleted reason, which I believe to be at best unhelpful and at worst baiting.

Oh, the post itself refers to that comment you made earlier about "it ain't broke, don't fix it", and then points it to the current situation. I deleted it because I figured it would get you upset and I didn't want to bother with dealing with anyone being any more emotional than now, and thus derailing the discussion.

Which is exactly what my "deleted by" reason says. If anything, I was being pretty damn helpful. ;)

Alas, you appear to have completely missed the point of Yaf deleting the post - i.e. that the subject matter would anger you, and this would be unconstuctive.

Ironic, no?

The irony is lost in the wording of the delete. You can't claim any high ground when conceding your point AND hinting that you think that the person you're conceding to might have gotten "pissy". It's disingenuous and childish.

No, you weren't. What you said was, "On second thought, it'll just make LE pissy, which is a rather irritating thing to bother with."

"Pissy" has a different meaning to "angry". The line is derogatory = personally insulting to another player = flaming. That's not helpful, it's petty. Cut it out.

The post deletion line now reads "Reason: sudden attack of discretion". Go away and make it come true, knowing that I'll be watching for any sudden attacks of indiscretion.

I don't follow. EDIT: Mind helping me through it?

I meant "pissy" in the sense "pissed off", which essentially means "upset". I'm not entirely sure how that doesn't mean "angry". Just a quick search (http://dictionary.reference.com/dic?q=pissy&search=search) on dictionary.com gets "nasty or disagreeable", which is what I'm saying. Saying that someone will become "nasty" isn't personally insulting another player (I hope, or else a *lot* of people ought to be in trouble ;) ). I'm not "looking down" on LE, or being "derogatory". It's not like I think I'm better than him or something. If you actually read the post I made, it wasn't in any way a flame or anything (it actually had a relatively legit point), I just felt that LE would probably be personally offended by it ("pissed off"), so I deleted it.

How's that flaming? If anything, that's putting his opinion before my own.

I think that issue hinges on whether my original post was flaming or not - I would like to formally request that a mod goes back to read it and see if it was actually flaming. If it wasn't (which I'm pretty sure it wasn't), then how is it derogatory to the poster if I'm getting rid of something that offends them specifically? Moreover, does it actually make a difference if I put "On second thought, it'll make LE angry, which I don't want to deal with" instead of "On second thought, it'll just make LE pissy, which is a rather irritating thing to bother with"? I mean, if the post isn't even directly insulting him (or anyone for that matter), but I was deliberately trying to avoid a flame war by deleting it. Ought I next time to just let it lie posted?

Incidentally, what does "Go away and make it come true" mean? Is that some sort of "get out of here"? I thought I was allowed to plead my case. :?

Sorry, it's just that I'm confused how *avoiding* a flame war suddenly gets me in trouble because I used the word "pissy" instead of "angry". Seems an odd reason for me to get a warning/ban/whatever I have (because I'm not really sure).

EDIT#2: also, I'm on IRC, which might be an easier forum for this, if you wish?

To be honest, I can see both sides in this. I'm not a fan of LE's and I haven't seen the post in question, but I thought Yaf's wording of his reason for deleting his post was not a particularly wise choice.

As for the "go away and make it come true," I think what Ardchoille was getting at was "I'm using better discretion," which is how she edited your reason for deleting. She's allowing you to make your case.

Okay, thanks, that's what I *hoped* s(?)he was saying. :) Sounded odd, though.

For a large number of people, "pissy" has derogatory connotations. Like the difference between "girl" and "fine piece of ass".

Hrm. I always thought it was the adjective version of "pissed off". My bad, then.

If this helps at all:

The first three entries are the ones most likely to be thought of first...

Blimey, what a muddle to come back to! TGD, my objection to the delete line hinged on reading "pissy" in the sense Kat posted as a first choice: if a person's getting "pissy" they're getting fussed over something unimportant. People do get annoyed being told they're fusspots.

As to whether you're banned, clobbered or otherwise slapped around, no, you're not. What I was saying was, "I've said in the new "deleted" line that you had an attack of discretion. Now make what I've said come true: have an attack of discretion. Don't post silly things like that "deleted" line any more. Be discreet."

My response doesn't hinge on the original content of your post, which wasn't a flame, just another round of a discussion that you plainly decided you didn't want to have. That part was fine.

What wasn't fine was the way your deleting that post looked to me (and evidently to others) like someone slamming a door after a quarrel, re-opening it to make a snarky comment and then running like hell so they won't have to pay for it.

On that basis I responded, basically, "Don't be silly and don't do it again."

Now let's give it a rest before we all get pissy, eh?

I think people would be more likely to use "bitch" or "hoe" instead of "fine piece of ass," but your point is valid.

Had Yaf used "upset" or "angry" in his reason for deleting, I don't even think we'd be here discussing a complaint from LE.
