Doesn't seem to me any worse than the occasional anti-Bushism did.

Besides, if you can't figure out a way to read that as a compliment to Obama, you're not the spinmeisters I thought you were.

One problem with New Mitanni's signature is that, because it is a signature and not a post, it can't be directly debated or opposed.

I don't think the solution is to take action against NM, but rather to allow the creation of a thread that discusses NM's signature. (I would just start such a thread, but I am afraid I would get rapped on the knuckles for a thread that singles out another poster.)

Meh, I certainly dont agree with it...But, i have thicker skin than that, besides, I dont really care anyway, lol...

Okay, let's analyse it to death.

There are two probable sources of complaint: the language used and the content of the sig.

Language: "Shit-shoveller" might not pass in the title of a thread, where we're stricter. In a sig, it is (a) buried within text and (b) ignorable, thanks to the handy little "turn off sigs" tool. "Son of a bitch" seems to me a a fairly mild insult (cf Australian "bastard").

New Mitanni wouldn't be allowed to write "Player X is a shit-shovelling socialist son of a bitch", but Obama isn't playing here (under his own name, anyway). Of course, if he wants to fess up about his secret NS addiction, I'll have another look at the situation.

Content: That Obama is a socialist is an opinion. NS does not forbid people to put opinions in their sigs. (In fact, sigged opinions are a useful way of determining whether posters wish to interact.)

Debatability: You're right, TCT, you would get your knuckles rapped for starting a thread on New Mitanni or on his sig; we already have a thread about the latter -- this one.

You wouldn't get your knuckles rapped for starting a thread on the opinion that Obama is a socialist, with no need whatsoever to mention New Mitanni. I'm sure you would be able to find some RW hook to hang this particular hat on; Googling it got me 7,850,000 results.

In sum: Obama's a politician; politicians get abused; deal with it.

Not that it will ever happen, but if he ever does play here, I will happily tell him exactly what I think of him and his socialist policies, and equally happily deal with whatever Moderation decides to do about it.
