There's a thread (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=580459) on how both Obama and Roberts messed up the swearing-in and whether he should redo it. Well, Obama redid (http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090122/ap_on_go_pr_wh/obama_oath_do_over) it, so you may wish to close the now-pointless thread...

Dunnit. You're right, of course. But I'm glad it stayed open long enough for me to learn about the One-Day President.

Except, erm, they've disproved (http://www.snopes.com/history/american/atchison.asp) the "Atchison for one day" urban legend...

And thanks for closing the thread.

Well, of course that's what I meant I'd learned. Clearly. Obviously. I am not in the least attempting to save face ... :D

And in the interests of preserving the NSG reputation for rigorous research, I should point out that the poster concerned made it clear that it was a claim made only in jest by Atchison himself:

I'm a little disappointed in Snopes here: yes, yes, they go through all the reasons why Atchison wasn't really truly the President, but they don't tell whether it is or isn't true that this "joke" claim ended up carved on his tombstone. I'd be curious to know if that part is a fact or just a good story.

Except they have a picture of his tombstone, complete with the one-day president title.

...you may wish to lock this thread too,a s we really shouldn't be discussing it here... (unless, of course, the mods also have the power to legally uproot tombstones XD)
