I'm just curious, really... what happened?

My guess would be it might've been deemed "spam".

Hmm... it was about the candidates during the presidential election. Not exactly spam, I thought?

It started out totally spammy. It had a chance for revival halfway through, but then collapsed into more spam.
Much like that one MP sketch.

Be that as it may, the thread made a rapid descent into Spamville, experienced a brief revival before returning to the squalid slums of Spamville. Though I'm not the mod who locked it, I can see why the decision was made.

^This.
I leave a lot of threads with spammy OPs open, but that one started out so low (four words, no argument, no real attempt to provide a topic) that when it degenerated there was nowhere for it to go. OPs should at least try.

Not at all -- and congrats for figuring out what it was actually about! I'd tried to relate it to something in US politics, but all I could think of was the inauguration/Coleman/Illinois Senate seat/bail-out/Clinton hearings, and they all came up zero.
