I consider this post (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showpost.php?p=14246610&postcount=130) to be a highly offensive comment by TAI, given the context of what he is quoting. it's quite obvious which "one of those" he is referring to.

Mods only please.

Neo Art, if that post had been made by certain other forum regulars, or by a newcomer who'd had the sense to add a smiley, I'd have taken it as intended to be a joke and wondered why you saw it as anything else.

There's evidence in TAI's sig (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showpost.php?p=13176521&postcount=119) that he, too, recognises the meme in which stereotypes are exaggerated in a way that shows how absurd they are.

Still, because of the history of exchanges between you and TAI, and the regrettable tendency for political disagreements to become personal, I accept that it could have been intentionally insulting, ie, flaming.

Next problem: how bad a flame? I think this post from Poliwanacraca makes the dilemma clear:

One of those what? Lawyers? People descended from Poles? People who have traveled places outside their hometown? Evil world-controlling J00s?

So you're asking me to make a ruling about something that could be a flame of indeterminate ebil. The only rock I've got to stand on is your assurance that you, personally, found it insulting. I've no reason to doubt that, but I've little reason to act against TAI for any proven breach of the rules.

That being the case, all I can see to do is

remove the post; I wouldn't if it added anything to the topic, but it doesn't and I don't see that removing it sets any hideously oppressive precedent.
remind you both that the normal emotional cues are lacking on the internet
advise him (and everyone) to be careful to avoid insult to other players.
EDIT: And advise you to refrain from making comments like this (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showpost.php?p=14247064&postcount=131) before taking a dispute to Moderation.

ard, I appreciate your position, and for the most part I recognize that "one of those people" can be a very vague statement, given the litany of identifiers I included. However, I most pause to wonder if such a response would have not been brought out had I not include the qualifier "jewish".

In short, we jews have spent a very large part of our history being "those people", and those words have certain meaning in that context

Well, yeah, and I considered that. However, NSG's running joke about "teh ebil j00s", of which your own comment here (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showpost.php?p=14247157&postcount=135) seems to be part, kinda muddies the waters.

If it comes down to "this comment is offensive when said by TAI, but not when said by me or anyone else who's in on the joke", well, frankly, I'm stumped.

Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't TAI Jewish himself?
