MODS only, please.

Hi there. I'm known for giving Wilgrove the occasional ration of grief for his blogginess and other traits on NSG. Mostly it's a single dig and I let it go. Not this time.

Wilgrove, using civilian pilot licensure as some kind of defense against the dark art of questioning his pronouncements, made the claim that obese passengers have been asked to leave planes because of concerns over an airliner's center of gravity. The claim is clarified here:

http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showpost.php?p=14237021&postcount=96

When called on it, he posts an article that doesn't address the question, and gets called on it again. Then he posts this one, with the snarky tagline at the end.

Then he insults me, which is par for the course sometimes in NSG, so I wasn't too riled:

But then he uses the plural "idiots" to imply that the rest of us calling him on his goalpost-shifting are stupid. That crossed the line, in my estimation.

If you read the thread and determine that I provoked Wilgrove into that kind of reply, I will have to accept that, and I will. However, as much as I can sometimes help confrontations along, I do not think that's the case here.

MODS ONLY, please.

Intangelon, it's a slow Sunday here and rain and winds are keeping me inside, but even so I'm not going to adjudicate on the actual content of the argument you're having.

Ignoring the pros and cons turns it into just another example of the NSG template that ends up with "Tisn't!" "'Tis!" "'Tisn't + flame ..."

I think you should both have stopped before it got to the 'tisn't-'tis stage, but that's just me.

As to my determining that you "might have provoked Wilgrove into that kind of reply", yeah, I suppose that this (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showpost.php?p=14237098&postcount=130) might be read as just a little bit provocative (and no, I'm not referring to the "dancin'" bit).

So, hey, yellow card.

As to the "idiots" line: normally that'd be a yellow card, if at all, but as Wilgrove has managed to perpetrate the most classic "mods-as-weapons" I've seen in a while (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showpost.php?p=14237138&postcount=148), I'm making it a red card.

For those interested: Intangelon said If you insult me or my "reading comprehension skills" again after this post, your posts will be dealt with in Moderation.

Wilgrove said Also, if you report me, then I'll report you for the "dance puppet dance" comment.

The difference, as I read it, is that Intangelon says he will report Wilgove in moderation for (possible rules infraction).

Wilgrove, however, says he will report Intangelon IF Intangelon reports him -- ie, he wouldn't normally have reported it, but he's doing it as tit-for-tat, not as poster reporting possible rules infraction.

Fair enough, and just about what I expected. Thank you very much.

I will add, though, that I've both used and seen "you're full of shit" before on this forum with no adverse reactions. Is that new, or is it subject to contextual interpretation?

But you said a little more than that, didn't you?

C'mon, we both know that no mod is going to say "this word is always forbidden". The minute anyone said that, someone would come up with an innocent, if not downright benevolent, usage.

So yes, context. Look, if you'd said, "I sincerely hope, Wilgrove old chap, that your manservant will put too much starch in your collars", and it was evident from the context that you were saying so with real malice or getting so heated you deserved a warning, you'd still get one.

There's nothing new about expecting people to address the post, not the poster.

Fair enough, I will try to curtail my insults and try to be more respectful of my posts in the future. I will also try to avoid using mods as weapons in the future as well.
