Well my thread on who people voted for in the US elections was closed, and I'd like to know why. http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=571943

I didn't close it, but judging from the first page, it turned into a spamfest, and there wasn't much to the original post to begin with.

It's not the recipe for a successful thread, either -- very few will answer seriously.

But it's only 2 pages long, so surely it could've gone any direction in the pages to come?

Once a thread degenerates into spam, we close it. Plain and simple. It doesn't matter how long the thread is. If you want to start a thread that doesn't fall into the same problem, create a detailed first post asking why, and perhaps discuss the issues that convinced people to go for one candidate over the other. Promote a good discussion rather than a one word answer.
