Why doesn't everyone here keep quiet for a bit and let the mods work their way through it.

If a mod happens to read this, might it be worth locking the thread a bit to work one's way through everything? Plenty of people on both sides have been needlessly inflammatory or trollish.

I have locked the thread, and also the other threads in Moderation dealing with it.

For the record, yes, Heikoku, Knights of Liberty and New Potomac were trolling (the latter not by expressing a dissenting view, but by making clear that he was continuing to do so for its annoyance value); sundry folk fed them and some flamed in the process; Ferrous Oxide and Khadgar mildly flamed each other.

I'd acquit FO of trolling. I think he is simply not fully aware of the legislative and social differences in the way Australians and Americans treat/regard their head(s) of state, of government and of the armed forces. However, I don't recommend a thread to discuss it at this stage because you all need time to cool down.

I am not going to go through the thread handing out infractions. The people named are warned not to continue and will be dealt with should they transgress. Those of you who are not specifically named know who you are and know that the mods have taken notice. You would be well advised to lay low.

Most of the people taking part in the idiocy are adults, most of you know how to use the Ignore function and most of you should be capable of resisting the urge to add fuel to a fire.

A thread that could have been used to achieve an understanding of each other's feelings and begin the process of healing has instead been used by some to drive the wedge deeper. Not General's finest hour.

EDIT: By "begin the process of healing" I meant "start talking to each other as reasonable beings again". My apologies for the wuss-speak.

He's already old enough to want one. Every time he sees one, on TV or in RL, he starts jumping up and down and pointing. :tongue:
