Request for sticky

With a week to go, here's the US election cycle request for a sticky to remind all of us in General that, regardless of who wins, thou shall not gloat.

I'd like to be able to say that us Generialites are adult enough to not rub other people's noses in that fact (Whatever it will happen to be), but sadly adult behavior and NSG are two mutually exclusive terms.

Oh ye of little faith ... me too.

Begun it (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=570516).

Other mods who survived the 2004 election cycle may be able to expand on it.

I would add excessive complaining/bitching too.

oh and perhaps a closed sticky "election results megathread" (with a warning that all other threads about the US Election results will be deated)
that will be opened on election day.

"Gloating" isn't really what I was thinking about... but, given the factors involved in this election - if the result is not the Democrat win that everyone is expecting (someone had to say it), then that's bound to spill over.

The same issues of voter disenfranchisement (for example) that are already being discussed quite hotly, are going to be even more pertinent in that circumstance. It seems like trying to police that kind of circumstance into not happening, would be kind of like trying to stop a slit wrist from bleeding, by adding band-aid.

I'm reluctant to be too specific: "excessive" is very much a judgment call and I don't want to make any fiats that might inhibit, say, legitimate analysis of a campaign's weaknesses.

I think the definition of trollbait is flexible enough to cover whininess, gloating and any other ways of being annoying about the election that people might come up with. Stickying it temporarily is crowd control.

On the idea of a mega-thread, seems to me there are likely to be a lot of specific interest topics on the day -- is the Senate filibuster-proof, popular vote vs electoral college, tipping point states, My Very Own Voting Story, pollbooth disenfranchisement/malpractice, the youth vote, what next for winners, what next for losers -- that warrant their own moment in the sun.

My inclination is to let threads run with mods weeding and merging as needed, but let's see what others think.

maybe 'excessive' is wrong. perhaps 'trollish' then.
