I made a military calculator in an .xls document, which I will offer for free to anyone who wants it. Is it against the rules to post an OOC thread talking about it, with a link to the offsite hosting thing? I would like to post something about it in II, so as to help lower the amount of new people that post about their gigantic militaries.

I personally was very surprised with how small a military I actually have.

I don't know what the mods will say but can you send me a TG with the link in it?

I think Gameplay would be a better place for it; that's where I've seen Goobergunchia's discussions of NSWiki and others' links to the economy calculators. Concerns about the size of a nation's military aren't restricted to II. This sounds like something that would have general application (and appreciation).

You could also link to it in your sig, as could the people who find it useful. Just make sure that it's clearly your personal effort, not an official NS offshoot.

The reason I wanted to put it in II, though, is because I see tons of new guys who really have no idea how to size their military (and neither did I). I think that putting it in II would allow it to have more traffic, and therefore make a bigger impact.

Fair enough. How about this: use II as your guinea-pigs, put up what amounts to an OOC sign-up thread there and handle the user chit-chat until you're sure everything's sorted out. Then put an announcement in Gameplay.

I'm harping on Gameplay because International Incidents is not the only roleplay forum. The discovery that they're actually a military power (or not) might make a difference to how some WA and NS players handle their diplomacy. Gameplay is where they're most likely to find out.

(And if you've really come up with a bandaid for that long-running sore, my government will submit your name for admission to the Ancient and Honourable Order of Leonard the Crane.:D)

Agreed, fair enough.

And it really could be at least a little band aid. I mean, you never hear anyone complain about somebody wanking their economy so long as there is at least one working calculator.
