New "rules"?

So, it looks like OMAC wants to apply new rules (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/announcement.php?f=1227&a=122), some of which (bans) are quite different from what's been established here. Will NS proceed under it's established rules or the new rules?

We have a system that works. We may add their system to ours. Hasn't been decided.

Honestly other than the "3-strike" thing, what is the difference exactly?

It's an automated system as opposed to a manual listing. It's also Forums only, and isn't logged the same way we currently log warnings.

It's a short term thing, primarily. It's designed to handle immediate problems immediately, in hopes that they won't escalate over time. Once you go for a while without warnings, I think the old warnings dissipate. Our current system is like the elephant's memory - we never forget.

So, it would be a system like the one I asked about and called for - all the while arguing that it would be that much more fair - back when my nation was deleted, implemented three months after it?

I don't suppose, if this passes, that I could ask for my old nation back, given that the system changed and that part of it is, I assume, in recognition that it was, as I said, an unfair rule?

Hmm... the sticky seems to have dissapeared and the link comes up as unauthorised. Yet, you said elsewhere, that Andras "wanted to be the guinea pig for the new Jolt Infraction system." (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showpost.php?p=13865992&postcount=6)

We're not adopting this new system as our only system. It's merely a supplement for minor offenses. Major stuff still stays on your nation, like the multiple multi-day bans you earned.

As for retroactive rules reversals, we've never done those. You broke the rules extant at the time, so ex post facto adjustments won't apply. You'd scream bloody murder if we retroactively punished people for rules that didn't exist when they broke them. Why should we reverse that?

Incidentally, your nation should have been deleted in 2006. The 2008 deletion was just a delayed reaction to what should have happened earlier.

As to the Announcement, Adams901 apparently took it down. He hasn't mentioned why as yet.

The system has been there as long as we've been on Jolt. There just wasn't any impetus to use it before. Now that OMAC is acquiring new games and adding them to the forums, they wanted a consistent and visible system for people who didn't have them. Those of us with systems in place (NS, Londivium, etc) are welcome to use our own.

We may add infractions as a core method of moderation in any event. They're really handy from our perspective, and the message sent to offenders leaves no ambiguity as to why they're being warned. Here's a sample*

You have received an infraction at jolt.co.uk public forums

You do realize we're talking about two different concepts here: When a government abolishes a law, for instance, it tends to be due to it being found unfair. When a government CREATES a law, the citizen is not expected to be able to anticipate the change in the law. Which is why - at least here in Brazil - Law doesn't apply retroactively except when it benefits the defendant/convicted person.

Apply the adequate analogies.

Regardless, I never hated Hillary Clinton as much as I do right now. And yes, I know, I edited it out before, but that was when I had any hopes. But this paragraph is besides the point.

Incidentally, one of the mods, HotRodia or The Most Glorious Hack if memory serves (IF memory serves, I'm not claiming it WAS either), outright SAID he was cutting me some slack in 2006. That was a decision, not a "lapse".

I clicked on your link and got this.

Kahanistan, you do not have permission to access this page. This could be due to one of several reasons:

1. Your user account may not have sufficient privileges to access this page. Are you trying to edit someone else's post, access administrative features or some other privileged system?
2. If you are trying to post, the administrator may have disabled your account, or it may be awaiting activation.

Since a mod's posted in the thread, maybe he/she can shed some light on the subject.

And who / what is OMAC?

Indeed you did, because, as I pointed out above:
Hmm... the sticky seems to have dissapeared and the link comes up as unauthorised.

At the time of my OP, there was a sticky making an anouncement about a new set of rules.

And who / what is OMAC?

Ehhh... the company that aquired Jolt over a month ago. There was a big sticky in all the forums about it, and it's been the talk of the forums. They're the one's behind all the expeimenting and changes on the forums.
