Intentiallly changing a person's name in quote bracets

The original quote that I'm talking about can't be linked to directly because it's not a true quote... But it's found in this first post linked to below

Looks like this:

And I said this:
Side Topic: I think it might be against the rules to 'quote' a person and then change their name in the quote brackets itself. You've done so, please correct it.
http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showpost.php?p=13691217&postcount=215

And he said this:
Side topic: No. I didn't change your name. I wrote the quote tags myself and frankly I don't care to even attempt to spell your name correctly. There's nothing flamey or baity about calling you Baldy. Much as there's nothing wrong with people calling me Joccy.
http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showpost.php?p=13691241&postcount=217

So I said:
You put my name correctly in other quote brackets, you are capable of it. You quote me in bracket than you quote the name correctly. You quote me or addess me in your text, you spell it any way you like. Brackets indicate 'quote'. Please fix it. How you fix it is up to you, take the brackets off or fix the name.

And he said:
Yes, when I use the quote button. When I type it out myself, you get what you get. I'm not sure what you think you're doing, but you're not going to get a change. It's not entirely uncommon to do that. In fact, I've likely done it to you in the past. You'll also notice it doesn't have the link arrow like it would if I used the quote button. I was in the middle of the post. I'm not going to go back an edit it.

Me:
Or I'll have to report it and see if it's against the rules to intentionally misspell a person's name in quote brackets and then refuse to fix it when they've been asked to fix it...
http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showpost.php?p=13691337&postcount=231

Jocabia:
I didn't intentionally misspell your name. I intentionally shortened your name. You sound like your using mods as a weapon You're pretty clearly telling me to change it or you'll tell. Meanwhile, if you'd like I can find precedent about people complaining about nicknames. It's roundly ignored.
http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showpost.php?p=13691352&postcount=236

Me:
First I asked you and I said please... then I told you what I thought your two options were. Three, you did intentionally misspell it, you said you couldn't be bothered to spell it correctly... And I'm not complaining about the nickname, I'm complaining about the brackets quote around a joke of my name...

So which is it? Do people have the right to misspell and make fun of another persons name in the actual quote brackets themselves and then refuse to correct them when called on it or not?

For example, do I have to right to misspell Jocabia's name in every quote of his as something like Jokeabia when I talk to him in threads?

But, since you're so horribly sensitive about this, Joca: please quit shortening "Balserdash71964"'s name. It makes him cranky.

Um, first, you're making a bit of a leap there. Where did I make fun of your name? Your name is quite long. I'm NOT going to type it out. You never even suggested in your request that I was "making fun of your name" until you go here.

There was no insult and you've said you don't object to my use of it in posts. Shortening long names is common.

I am wondering whether it's illegal to threaten to tell the mods if I don't go back and edit my post.

Are you serious? I have to type out his name and remember the numbers?

Incidentally, you misspelled his name, too.

No, it isn't. 'Course that doesn't mean we won't slap him down if it's overdone.

It's one thing to call him 'Baldy' in the context of the thread, and I'd never glance twice. It's misrepresentation to change his name in an attributed quote, particularly when he called you on it.

You've made thinner complaints than this in the past, Jocabia. This one time when the decision went the other way. Suck it up and move on.

Again, I didn't change his name. I was in the middle of a post and decided I wanted to quote him, so I copied and pasted the selected quote and typed [quote=Baldy]

I could just as easily have said - Baldy:

Either way, I just shortened his name in order to type it. It's not as if I altered my quote tags to annoy him.

Uh-oh, three mods (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showpost.php?p=13691451&postcount=245) on the one topic ... does this mean management will start talking about staff cuts? *rings union*

Not to mention this is probably the silliest complaint I've seen.

Okay, it's not, but it's the silliest one I've seen actually get traction. I'm lazy. I didn't realize laziness was against the rules.

*Hands out apples so no one goes hungry.

I reiterate though, its the quote tags in the brackets, I objected to the brackets and bolding of the name change. He's right that it could have been easily fixed, but it wasn't and I had to come here.
