I made the mistake of enabling sigs for a short while, and well this is what I saw within less than five minutes of casual forum browsing. I count more than 8 lines in each of those huge sigs, and what seems to be a common culprit for huge and obtrusive sigs (even those that don't go above 8 lines) are quote boxes.
I really don't see why they're still allowed in sigs. Even when they don't push the sig above the 8 lines rule, they always make the sig much, much bigger and more obtrusive than a non-quote box quote does and when a poster posts several times in a thread, they riddle the thread with boxes, making it virtually unreadable. Example:
Random quote
Compared with:
Random user: Random linked quote. (http://www.linktorandompost.com)
Or even with the more tasteful and considerate smaller text:
Random user: Random linked quote. (http://www.linktorandompost.com)
So, well, even if the mods still feel that quote boxes, useless and unnecessarily space-demanding as they are, are still OK, this will hopefully make people realise that it really is douchy to use them anyway when compared to a quote without a box, and ironically contraproductive since it pushes people to having to turn sigs off to be able to read the forums.
