Am I the only one who doesn't find the subject of murdering people oh-so-wholesome and fun?

In fact I find the discussions thereof somewhat threatening, but then I live in the real world where murders actually do happen and it's not so funny. But maybe I'm one of those thin-skinned types who doesn't think planning violent crimes on the internet is a swell idea.

Aye, and I find it interesting that we're not allowed to talk of murdering people like George Bush but we are allowed to talk of murdering each other.

Murdering each other doesn't get our friends at the Secret Service involved.

As my revhead Texas colleague said, it's a tasteless joke and not the sort it'd be advisable to make often.

It is also, plainly, not "planning violent crimes on the internet". Therefore I am not going to assassinate it. It appears to be dying a natural death, anyway.

Just lay off GT.

I must not call HotRodia a revhead Texan.

How do you know it's a joke? This is New Mitanni here (well, the second post was). The guy who honestly seems to get aroused at the prospect of death, genocide and torture. It's nice for you to say it doesn't mean anything. It's not you he and others are "joking" about killing.

Just lay off GT.

Is that a command for me to lay off? Or is it directed to someone who's actually transgressing somehow.

The OP has nothing to worry about from anyone I know, or I would have used a different smilie. :p

And at the risk of improperly using moderation, I will note for the record that (1) the OP never seems to miss an opportunity to flame me, whether or not I'm even involved in a given thread, and (2) I am not a crybaby about such things, in contrast to some who have regularly so revealed themselves.

The defense rests.

Sorry -- I should know better than to make meaning dependent on a comma. If I'd been telling you to lay off, I'd have written, "Lay off, GT."

The "lay off" was addressed to those who are talking of "assassinating" you. I don't see their existing comments as transgressions, but, as you've made clear your discomfort with the concept, I'm asking subsequent posters to refrain from aiming any sociopathic fantasies at you. As any polite person would, they'd already begun doing so anyway.

And at the risk of improperly using moderation ...

You are. Don't.

Yes it may have been slightly tasteless but I assure GT that it was not meant with any intent, and I was not seriously suggesting that GT should be killed.

I was unaware that GT was not entirely comfatable talking about this and when I realised that, I didn't continue with the joke as I may have.

Had the thread been on any other topic I would not have suggested the GT be killed or that I will kill him, either as a joke or as a serious statement.

Do you honestly feel threatened? I mean really this is the internet.

Even if this is true, it is no justification for your own behavior. Two wrongs don't make a right.

(2) I am not a crybaby about such things, in contrast to some who have regularly so revealed themselves.

Reporting in moderation = "crybaby?"

Do you honestly feel threatened? I mean really this is the internet.

Maybe a few years ago I might agree, that the internet is such a small and specialized subculture that what happens on it is just kid's play with no consequence or relevance to the real world.

Not now. This IS the real world. You ARE a real person, as am I, and hell, maybe even New Mitanni too.

But it really isn't about my "feelings" here, anymore than when a flame is a flame despite whether the target's "feelings" were hurt. I guess I'm just a tad confused that "I WANT TO KILL YOU" is in no way a transgression of forum rules.

Seriously, anyone with an ounce of sence could see that that thread was in jest. Stop being a baby.

Anyone with an ounce of "sence" could also see that I'm aware of the "funny" thread. I am not reporting the thread in entirety, but two, or rather I guess one now, posts from it.

And, speaking of ounces of "sence," you might have bothered to read what I've written and seen that whether I'm a "baby" or not, whether my "feelings" are hurt is irrelevant.

Lastly, anyone with an ounce of "sence" should be using a web browser with basic spell checking features so they don't wind up looking like an illiterate child.

But "sence" is in low supply and low demand as well, it seems.

I have to agree with GT here. It shouldn't matter who said it, or at whom it was aimed...it's a threat. It doesn't become less of a threat just because it was in some 'joke' thread...just like flaming doesn't suddenly become unflaming by adding :p or ;) or :D.

All of you need to seriously knock it off. Vaklavia, your comments, not to mention the fact that you are in this thread at all, is unnecessary at best. And although I agree with your POV, GT, bickering back only makes you seem like you are doing nothing more than whining. Petty bickering does not belong on this site regardless, but here in Moderation it is downright stupid. Move on before something happens that none of you want. A Moderator needs to solve the issue here, and they seem to have already decided on the matter. If they do come back for review (I for one believe they should) I doubt you want them coming back to this.

We've put up with your attitude and flaming through multiple incarnation, New Tacoma / Vaklavia. Enough.

Nation deleted, ban instituted.
