Not mine, but perfectly acceptable roleplay for the UN forum, as precedented by, oh, well, all of these:

Thanks, though Ardchoille is probably going to put a curse on my head for this. http://209.85.48.12/html/emoticons/unsure.gif

The RP threads that stay in the UN forum are usually self-limiting, and their topic is in some way the UN itself, its operations or its attitudes.

For example, in your list they're "I bagsy his office" ones, "I'm leaving", a New Year's thread and, I'm pleased to note, my President's treatise on the Strangers' Bar. All of these were bound to run out of steam once the offices were stripped, the insults exchanged or the comments exhausted.

The "I'm new here" one is pretty much "greetings, ambassador" -- also self-limiting.

The ones that get moved are the (potentially long) ones that concentrate on, and have an effect on the history of, a single nation. The ongoing Kawaiian diaspora thread, for example, started in the UN but was shifted. Same with the regular "help me, I'm being attacked" ones. The "diplomatic party" or "receiving ambassador" ones tend to start out in the RP forums anyway, as did your One-Stop Diplomacy Shop. Many longer Strangers' Bar RPs move, too, as the current soccer match did, when the players feel they're too nation-specific.

The point is, the main function of the UN is "to improve the world, one resolution at a time". Some RPing is necessary to develop characters and background, but a clutter of "here I am" threads would make the GA action threads harder to find. So it's better to keep 'em down.

The thread I closed was a mixture of several kinds of thread: introducing ambassadors, seeking information, suggestions for drafting proposals and what bore the promise of being an on-going Days of Our Lives soap opera about the ambassador's family settling in.

The "introducing ambassador" bit could go in the "Meet the Ambassadors" thread; the details of moving in could go in a brief Strangers' Bar appearance or as a throwaway comment in a debate; the proposals needed their own thread(s); that leaves the family-adjusts-to-the-UN notion, which would make a good RP in an RP forum (and I hope the poster does one).

Which is why, at this stage, I'm leaving it closed, though I welcome further nostalgic examples of (shudder) "precedenting" from your over-worked research staff.

And yes, I know; mod-Nazi.

AAAGHHH! BETRAYED!:)

*Retires to secret UNOG haunts, heats up cauldron ...*

Lesseee, "Hack" is easy enough to find a rhyme for, but what can I do with "Ohmigodtheykilledkenny"?
