No, all you al-Qaeda gunsels out there, it’s not being shut down.

But we have added another smiling happy inmate:

Now squeeze this bastard for everything he knows, and make him regret the day he was born in the process. :D

I don't think it's my imagination that he just said that everyone on this forum who wants Gitmo shut down is a terrorist, is it?

1) It is your imagination.

2) "Out there" refers to more than just the little world of NSG.

3) If the shoe fits, wear it.

4) The term you're crying about contains a wealth of allusions, suggestions and inferences, most of which I'm sure went right over your head.

5) There are an awful lot of crybabies on NSG.

OK, so New Mitanni speaks out in favor of himself. Now I'd kindly like the moderators, to whom I was actually asking the question, to have a chance to respond if you don't mind too terribly much? Thanks.

*cough* not speaking for the mods, but I would like to remind you that a "Mods Only Please" or something near to it might help.

also that NM does have a right to defend himself... I think...

That being said, flaming by NM in the Mod forum is a Not Good Thing.

Just a friendly reminder. :p

No, it's not trolling. "Out there" is a generalised term. Think how often TV hosts use "all you good folk out there". New Mitanni's directing his observation to a different viewer segment.

New Mittanni is also coming close to flaming in Moderation. You're allowed to defend yourself, you're not allowed to attack others. Quit it.

Greater Trostia, back off the direction you're taking in this post (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showpost.php?p=13527987&postcount=90). Flaming is actionable.

EDIT: Hmm. Just looked it over again. If you were asking if the tone of the original post was trolling, yes, it was. However, despite the gloating, the posters who replied have managed to make a decent discussion out of it, so I won't lock it. New Mitanni, that was dumb. Don't do it again.

Looking up "gunsel", it's a variant of a Yiddish word meaning "a criminal carrying a gun". I'm still trying to figure out in which sense NM was using it. At first I thought he was using it on those who would demand Gitmo's closure, but that doesn't make sense (I'd wager many of those people are pro gun-control). So then I thought that it was meant to be an actual warning to Al Qaeda agents just a-walkin' loose in the general vicinity.

Easier to understand, but still odd because it's a very dated term (early 20th C. according Merriam Webster). Other than that, it's all copacetic (both that last word and "gunsel" activate the red-underline spell apparatus...dated is right).

Raymond Chandler used it in some of his stories...

Yeah, that's more or less what I took it to mean. You can't really call "copacetic" dated, though, considering the sitcoms ... and Raymond Chandler, St Ed? Yeah, that makes sense, and then it would have spilled over into all those B-movie gangster flicks, so ...

Damn you both.

I must not be lured into word discussions in Moderation. I must not be lured into word discussions in Moderation. I must not ...
