How and why was this title changed? Was it done by the thread stealer and, if so, is this allowed?

The "thread stealer" didn't change the title.
Edit: Jesus dude... we have lives. I just now saw your post. Have a little patience.

The "thread stealer" didn't change the title.
My guess is that by stealing the thread and putting in a subject line to the post, the title changed due to a technical glitch, not an active effort.
Is this the case?
EDIT: I'm riffing off a previous complaint - apologies

Was changed by a mod. Probably thought the original title was a bit inappropriate.

It was me wot dunnit, guv'na, for the simple reason that I don't fancy another umpteen months of increasingly flamebaity thread titles until the US elections are over.
For all I know, the statement "Barrack Obama is a lying weasel" possibly had some harmlessly humorous intent, but it doesn't come across as such on a quick glance at the General index, and it's just the sort of thing to attract the zealots.
You'll note I didn't scratch it from the actual post. I'm not trying to stifle discussion, I'm just trying to make sure people don't come plunging in loaded for bear so they start flaming before they even read the post.
MODEDIT: I don't know why I apparently decided in this reply that Barringtonia was the author of the thread, as I knew quite well when I changed it that he wasn't. Anyway, edited to make sense.

While we're at it, is this thread (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=550986) a candidate for mergy goodness? It's still about Obama and NAFTA, while a different accusation it's still more or less banging the same drum. This poster kinda keeps doing this, drops a thread bomb, makes one or two more posts that don't really address anything anyone says and then a day or two later drops another thread bomb not significantly different than the last one. Since s/he (I know other posters refer to the poster as 'she' I don't know if they're guessing or not) doesn't really dispute anything the threads drift off, so maybe it doesn't matter to merge them, but if we're trying to quell what might be precedent in this election cycle hit and run threads might be part of what should be discouraged.
Just a suggestion (as if anything we post here is anything but...)

With 30-plus replies in the first thread and 70 in the second, I think it'd just cause too much confusion, CToaN. Filed away the idea, though.
