I have no idea why. No flame wars were going on and we have several strands of active debate.

No flame wars going on? Well, following up your complaint, I see classic examples of this:
Erudite slams while maintaining a veneer of politeness can also be considered flaming..
There's also a dogpile that would be enough to get an RP thread locked.
That makes two mods thinking it should go.

Fair enough. If two mods think it should go, it clearly goes.
I must say I am suprised as I thought the discussion was really quite civil and substantive. I am also not familar with any rule about "a dogpile."
But the thread had a good run and I thank you for answering my question about the lock.
