Imperio Mexicano, he's expressing a general opinion about a mixed bag of political groupings. He's not flaming you directly. Cryptic Nightmare's spot on.

However, CN, your sig's about to be edited because it has/had a referral link, and referral links are forbidden anywhere on site, even in sigs:

(A poster who broke this rule after a warning copped a seven-day vacation.)

Take consolation in the fact that you caught at least one free click. But, of course, my motives for looking were purely modly.:D

Umm, Why then is wilgrove allowed to have it in his? The link was to my mini city and wilgrove has a link to the same site in his. Shouldn't his be removed to?

Yes, it should. All referral links are out. As this particular rule has plainly been forgotten or just missed, I'll put a temporary sticky up on General about it and people can fix their own sigs.

EDIT: Done. Here's (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=547151) the link.

A question on the referral links, actually. I run a webcomic and have been thinking about putting a link to it in my sig. I currently receive no benefits from people viewing it (other than a feeling of joy when I look at my stats), but I may eventually end up selling advertising space on the site that benefits myself directly as opposed to the group that hosts my site. Would that be ok?

I doubt it would fall under the referral link rule, but I could see how it might, so I thought it would be safer to ask first.

These posts have been moved to allow further discussion of referral links and advertising links in sigs.

Laerod, that'd be fine. A referral link game is one where you win points or whatever in-game for each unique IP that visits your account; whereas if someone clicked a link to your webcomic, the only thing you'd get is visitors +1. They're not forced to click on your Google Ad or Project Wonderful banner or whatever, and such things are clearly visible as advertising anyway so it's fairly obvious that you'll garner 0.02 of a cent or whatever if they do.

Just to clarify, the links in my sig are ok?

There's nothing in the least objectionable about any of them.

Again, links to your website, a fun web game you play (such as the one in my sig), links to forum threads you like, link to your off-site region/forum and suchwise are all fine. Keep them small and unobtrusive and you'll be fine.

Referral links are a specific type of link. They are links where you get points or virtual money or some sort of in-game bonus for every person that clicks on them. This fad was largely started by the game Out War.
