Wow. Just Wow.

The posters who might be considered flamebaited have dealt with that rhetorical flourish by themselves, politely and adequately. I don't think a "play nice" now would accomplish any more.

(Shazbotdom, normally I welcome your helpful and succinct comments, but that one took "succinct" to vanishing-point.)

While the occasional bit of flamebaiting doesn't strike me as actionable, in my experience, inflamatory and largely content-less remarks are all that the person in question posts. The first page of the list of his posts has two instances of asking other posters to kill themselves, here (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showpost.php?p=13317669&postcount=51) and here (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showpost.php?p=13349588&postcount=170).

I did review his posting history. What's more, this is not a person with whose NS background mods are totally unfamilar -- the post of his that The Most Glorious Hack deleted from Moderation on December 24 is still accessible to mods, and it was, indeed, in the style you describe.

Nonetheless, I saw no reason to intervene earlier when two other posters had dealt with him effectively, and done it at the time it was needed, instead of a mod popping in hours later to wave an admonitory finger. Players can and should help keep the forums running smoothly.

On the two posts you quote, the one posted on Christmas Eve prompted several players to warn him that he was risking mod action, to link him to the One Stop Rules Shop and to ask him to stop. Which is pretty much what a mod would have done.

On the more recent "go jump off a bridge" post, this is what the rules say on threats:Threats: Any post, telegram, or other entry which can be read as a threat against a player's life or safety is forbidden. We will consider all such threats to be real and actual, not satire or hyperbole, and act accordingly.

If I thought that an NS poster would go jump off a bridge because someone on the internet had requested him to do so, I'd read it as a threat against life or safety. At the moment, I don't. Flamey, but, again, not actionable.

Which is not to say it won't be remembered, should it continue.

My post was supposed to be more of a question on how much of your postcount needs to be flamey remarks before it's too much. It's not really opposition to an aggressive argumentation; it's more that I've gotten the impression that the poster in question merely pops in, drops a snide one liner or insult, and doesn't bother to debate at all. In that spirit, I wouldn't have considered the statements threats either, but certainly baiting and insulting to the people they were directed at.

I'm not trying to make the case that the poster must be reprimanded or banned, but I wasn't sure if the pattern that I saw emerging had come to the mods' attention. You've shown me that my fears are unfounded. Thanks :)

... I suppose I phrased it wrong.

Me too -- my post sounds somewhat sniffy. But be assured, though the mills of Mod grind slowly, yet they grind exceeding small.
