Massive threads

Why is that the forum rule about huge threads does not get applied?

I mean, 2400+ posts? (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=545783)

I picked on that one cos it's a subject that I'd quite have enjoyed debating, ir at least I would have if it had stayed on topic, but then again staying on topic is one of the reasons for a thread size limit anyway, no?

There's that Dutch topic too, that floats to the top like a floating thing from time to time.

Just wondered

The size limit was for technical reasons on our old forums. Threads over a certain size caused problems in the mySQL back end.

It's still on the books for a variety of reasons, the principal one being bureaucratic inertia. It's not harming anyone remaining as an unenforced rule, and we can crank it out as an excuse if we need it.

If they enforced the rule, the Earth II thread would be history long ago. It stands at well over 20,000 posts now.
