Tsaraine got it, setting today's record for the quickness of the mod deceiving the eye -- seven minutes including cleanup! Yay Tsar!

Kaboom. Poster banned, posts deleted. Largely because he spread out from that thread to start posting similar things in other sections of the NationStates forum, and crossed the line from "I am highly incensed about this topic!" to "I am committing suicide-by-mod, have no mercy upon me!".

It could just be a co-incidence, and I'm not asking to know the contents of the flame, but would someone tell me if the flames referred to in the OP (and now extinguished) were answers to my little anti-US joke (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showpost.php?p=13307169) ?

And mods, am I getting a bit close to flamebaiting there? I'm sober, and it doesn't look to bad to me, but I know USians can be touchy about anything to do with their constitution.

I don't think so -- as far as I can tell, it was simply the mention of American law that set that poster off. You use of the term "US-ians" is more likely to land you in hot water, though in this context it looks to me like the standard friendly abuse the Cuzzins happily cop and return with interest.

And though one post is a little ungracious, you're currently closer to topic hijack than you are to flamebaiting.

EDIT: "Ungracious" as in asking someone for info and then calling them boring for giving it. Forgot your smilies, eh?

OK, thanks. The subject of the thread is a Brit who was apparently mistried under US law, and I gather the case has had a lot of attention over the years. I might be rehashing stuff that people have done before, but the case is new to me, not being either British or an US citizen.

"Felony murder" seems bang on-topic to me. If you mean this one (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showpost.php?p=13307122) about reducing the jail population voluntarily ... I thought it a rather neat heading-off of a far more likely hijack: the death penalty in general!

OK, I'll look into that. EDIT: Oh, I see what you mean (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showpost.php?p=13307418). The dangers of paraphrasing, eh? No offense seems to have been taken though.

Okay, okay, NH, everything's fine. Fine. Really, really fine.

Studying your posts in such detail has roused in me a thirst for textual exegesis that I can satisfy only by attempting to prove, by a combination of numerology, Bible code and artificially-induced inspiration, that President Putin is actually a reincarnation of Rasputin who was overlain at an early age by the spirit of Marilyn Monroe.

Or perhaps I mean hermeneutics, not exegesis. Whatever, I'm not doing any more in-depth interpretations of anyone else's posts today.

EDIT: Oh, dammit, the above does not mean that I think NH's posts are obscure writings based on obscurer theories. I am not being insulting. Look, smilies! ;):)
