Well, folks, here we are. Regional recruitment/advertisements definitely belong in the Gameplay forum, not in II.

On the other hand, roleplay does not belong in the Gameplay forum. What I'm going to suggest is that in the future, when you want to get the word out in the RP forums about a new region you've created, work the news into other roleplay. Have one of your characters think about or mention it. Or just have them hear about it on the news, etc. Y'all are creative problem solvers. I'm sure you can come up with something that doesn't violate the rules.

If you want to put up a thread specifically for the purpose of notifying others about the region, then it's going to belong in Gameplay, and it should be OOC.

If you don't like that things currently work this way and think you should be allowed to have roleplayed region ads in II, then suggest that change to the rules in the Moderation forum. I can't speak for the other Mods, but I'm open to the idea.

Trouble with moving this thread is it's a roleplay thread for a roleplayed colony/protectorate of a roleplaying region. The premise of this thread is to allow other nations to RP claiming territories within a sub-continent of Gholgoth, which is a RPing region.

This was never intended to be a 'regional advertisement' but instead an announcement from my leader that 'Gholgoth Minor' is open for anyone to settle in. While I prefer people physically move to the region, I would gladly accommodate someone if they instead wanted to roleplay their nation within the region but not have to actually move it so long as I had faith in their RP skills. The intent of 'Gholgoth Minor' is to make it an RPing protectorate of its parent region, an alliance based within a continent if you will.

I certainly did not appreciate my thread getting clogged with OOC rubbish and from the outset expected it to be a RP thread, especially since there is a following of anti-AMF nations who I counted on to post their political opposition to this. If you cared to actually read the first 4 posts you'd see that it was indeed a roleplay (before being cluttered). And you are blatantly making an error about suggesting one of my characters mention it because my leader did, as an open announcement which was replied to with roleplayed responses from other leaders.

So in closing, I violated no rules because the thread in question was a roleplay, and the fact that a physical representation of Gholgoth Minor exists within the game engine does not take away from the fact that my thread was a roleplay. I request it be moved back to I.I. where it belongs.

Sigh.

I understood the premise of your thread from a roleplay perspective. I thought it had a legitimate purpose in roleplay.

I also recognized that you were in essence asking folks to move to the region. Which is a Gameplay matter. And the most common task I find in Moderating the roleplay forums is moving region ads to Gameplay. I don't want gameplay matters cluttering up the RP forums any more than the residents of the RP forums do.

Because it functions as a region ad thread, it belongs in Gameplay. Because it contains RP, it does not belong there. I mentioned that in the thread.

I wasn't particularly happy with having to move something legitimately intended to be RP to Gameplay, so I suggested that the issue be discussed further in Moderation. I think we can resolve this to your satisfaction in a way that sets a good precedent for the future so that conflicts between gameplay and roleplay interests are minimized.

Which is what I would prefer. I just want the input of other roleplay and gameplay Mods first. I don't want to unilaterally say that y'all are allowed to make region ads in the RP forums so long as they are genuinely IC, even though that might be my first inclination.

I can see what prompted the move, Hotrod. It's a regional ad, it belongs in Gameplay, but it's an ongoing RP, it belongs in an RP forum -- I'm glad you got the headache first.

I think the "pick and choose" nature of this concept is what makes it more at home in the RP forums. Gameplay ads are usually "come-all-ye to my great region" -- no conditions, no declarations of loyalty, no "if you qualify". This one's autocratic tone and probationary nature mean it should generate "are we allowed in ?" replies, which wouldn't be appropriate in Gameplay.

I suspect this is going to make the mods' lives harder, since not everyone will be able to walk the fine line between intriguing advertising and straight-out roleplay. But I think if we stick to the notion that anything that demands an RPd reply should be in an RP forum, it should work out okay.

We may see a few Gameplay ads of this nature, though: "Are you good enough to enter @@Regionname@@? If you think you are, click (link to RP)." I can't see any harm in that, but how would it go down, given that people don't usually get to post in two forums on the same subject?

EDIT: By the way, AMF, I can't see Hotrodia accusing you of anything. He paid you the compliment of really considering your idea in depth. No need to bleed before you're wounded.

I wasn't getting defensive, merely stating my intentions behind the thread in detail and issuing a request to have it moved.

After getting the opinions of other Mods, this is the gist of the ruling:

You can now post what are essentially region ad threads in the RP forums so long as your primary purpose in making it is for roleplay and the regional recruitment is just a side effect.

Under this ruling, I can legitimately move the thread back to II. Which is what I'll do now.

AMF: You may not have been getting defensive, but you certainly didn't read my post carefully, and you did imply that I hadn't actually read the first four posts. So I can see why Ard may have gotten that impression.
