Exceeding PG-13

I find this entire thread, starting with the original post, to exceed the PG-13 guideline:

http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=540893

I find it especially offensive to involve children in this thread:

Swedish MTV airs that ad during the day and has been for weeks, but the thing is that Swedish MTV is broadcast from the UK and is subject to UK regulations - regulations which do not seemingly deem the ad unsuitable to be shown during the day, i.e. it's not deemed unsuitable for children.

Any "PG-13" reference New Mittanni is bound to have is probably by USA standards, but neither I nor Jolt are in the USA. Which country's "PG-13" applies? If the UK's, then I would wager this doesn't violate it (otherwise MTV would have been fined, like other Swedish channels broadcast from the UK that broke UK regulations but not Swedish ones have been, like Kanal 5 was for a Big Brother episode, for instance) - if the USA's, well, I have no idea, since USA standards seem awkward to apply to a .co.uk site, but also because I am not from the USA and thus have no idea what USA standards are. Other than seemingly much more puritan, as they bleep words and fine for pastied nipples.

In any case, the fact that a mod already has posted to the thread without closing it or reacting to a supposed "PG-13" violation leads me to believe that it's not in violation.

NM...please stop trying to find things to be offended about. Grow up and try and focus that energy into something productive or creative.

Actually, although he could have worded it better, Ruffy makes a very good point showing that the "cultural" influences from MTV's stereotypical "cool girls" are whores and sluts and such and thus it is showing on our generations when that's who "we" idolize.

Please don't bring the argument to Moderation.

Locking until I get home from the office or another mod has a chance to look at it.

OK, I've had a chance to look. I also noted that another mod posted in the thread, using exactly the same language being reported ... which has long been within the bounds of forum threads, though I'd probably draw the line at forum topic titles.

New Mitanni, if you're going to be offended every time somebody says "cock", perhaps you need a new home on the internet. This one's clearly too racy for you.

No action taken. Thread reopened.

"Allowed Threads
Think of it this way… if you are about to make a thread in General, will it offend anyone? Can it be labeled any worse than PG? (PG-13 allows swear words, which majority of the time, results in flaming.)" -- from General Forum Rulings (emphasis added).

I have yet to see PG-13 content that includes any of the subject matter of this thread, let alone PG content. Clearly your construction of "PG" is looser than mine. So be it.

You responded to an honest report consistent with the apparent intent of the rules with a suggestion that I may need a "new home on the internet". No doubt that was not meant as an erudite slam while maintaining a veneer of politeness.

You've no right to an absence of offense. You've not got a leg to stand on and the Mods have spoken.

I didn't claim any "right." I cited established forum rules. What part of "will it offend anyone?" don't you get?

You've not got a leg to stand on and the Mods have spoken.

Established forum rules gave me a leg to stand on. The Mods construed the rules differently than I did. I have spoken.

And I thought US MTV was bad. Oh well, who really cares anyway, I prefer not to watch junk.

You've spoken, and we have as well, with our answer. It's fine.
