Does this count as a copy cat thread?

I'll admit it's more of a pet peeve and I don't know if it really counts, so I'll take any decision quietly. I always feel extra silly reporting anything here (a feeling I hope I never lose, because it keeps me from running here too often)...

But, essentially it's just a parody of arguments he's facing in an already existent thread. Instead of addressing the arguments there, he's made a thread parodying what he views are their arguments in a separate thread, which while it might not be a pun on the title accompanied by a slight variation on the OP, it strikes me that it's still more or less the same thing as a copycat thread.

I understand this is a gray area because splinter discussions can happen in a thread and do in fact merit their own new thread, so I can see that this would be not a clear ruling thing. But man does it bug the hell out of me to look into a thread and realize it's just someone being a dick about some other argument I've been avoiding and I have to do detective work to figure out where this is all coming from.

So I admit it might just be me.

Sorry for bothering you. Just wanted to know.

(by the by, he's parodying the arguments in the Circumcision thread. (No way I spelled that right on the first try, I want me a god star...)

I would assume that the actual purpose of the thread was to test to demonstrate whether 'special exception' is being invoked in the case of circumcision... rather than it being pure parody or copycat.

B) This was meant to compare the exception. And I've constantly pointed out that it was meant to focus on the comparison between lopping off other body parts and circumcision. It was off topic because a poster entered the thread and started screaming. There were at least as many on topic posts as your above thread.

That's 8 of 20 posts that address the specific argument I presented. Considered another 6 or so were about how it's a copycat thread, I'd have to say that you locked a thread for no real reason. Wouldn't it have made more sense to ask us to stay on topic?

This is NSG. How many threads do you think I can find that remain on topic more than a third of the time?

'Ignorant' means there are things you don't know... it's hardly an insult. And he even asked if you understood it's meaning.

Considering you suggested that the adequate response to that, was to suggest he rapes monkeys, I think you should probably stop drawing attention to yourself in moderation.

Which is why I mention circumcision in the OP and I continue to mention the comparison.

False. And I don't think you want to start this in moderation. I said you said that saying you knowing of no purpose of the foreskin and asking the effects of the procedure demonstrates ignorance on the topic. I provided links to educate you so that we wouldn't have to keep explaining what these things are and you chose to say I rape monkeys and various other direct insults. Mentioning the ignorance of an argument is part of debate, especially when it's demonstrated.

If you can demonstrate that I rape monkeys AND that it matters to the argument I'm making, your comments will have equal relevance. Without that, they are rather wild personal attacks.

Are there any clear advantages of keeping the foreskin?

Or are there any clear disadvantages of being circumsized?

I don't think my complaint had anything to do with her locking it. Though I do appreciate your new courtesy of keeping arguments consolidated into a single thread instead of giving each 'new' idea its own thread.

I think you're looking for the actual circumcision thread.

Um, I think you're failing to recognize that this is a seperate argument. I don't care if the issues are related. I wanted to focus an argument on that comparison and how removing any body part shouldn't be excused by tradition. I wasn't going to derail the original thread in order to make people focus on that argument. However, you let me know when your permission is required for me to start a thread comparing two procedures. Until then, I think I'll make those decisions based on the rules of the site. Thanks.

Not for being a copycat thread, as was pointed out by the mod. For going off topic. A decision I'm hoping she'll reconsider since the majority of post, aside from the threadjack by people who don't know the rules, were on topic.

I could write "MODS ONLY" in big, unfriendly letters on this thread. Or I could just close it, which would enforce the limitation.

I'm not doing that, because it's possible some reasonable person might have an illuminating thought about the original post, and that's one of the reasons for having a moderation forum in the first place -- mods appreciate the thoughtful advice of other players.

It occurs to me that some of the posts here illustrate why there may well be a number of reasons for closing a particular thread, and stating one of them doesn't exclude the others.

Jocabia, you've put your argument and it needs no further elucidation.

Greater Trostia, considering your behaviour in that thread, you'd be well advised to keep your head down.

EDIT: Sorry, Cannot think of a name, back on topic: It strikes me as a simple parody thread, and I'd be reluctant to say anything to discourage parodies, because they can add spice to a discussion. But that's just one opinion.
