Is My Country's Name Offensive?

Gigantic Black Dudes

I have no reason to believe it is. If you disagree please post a reason why? I'd love to discuss it.

This is only so neither myself or anyone else has problems in the future. I like the name and want to keep it... without causing problems.

Any perspectives are welcome!

Peace,

This should be in Gameplay or technical. But your name doesn't bother me

Yes it is. You FAIL to aknowledge the thousands of gigantic Black WOMEN living in your nation.

Firstly, this should be posted in the Gameplay forum. Secondly, while singling out a specific ethnicity is perhaps in poor taste, I'm not sure it actually breaks any rules, like it would if it were your currency or national animal.

I would suggest either asking a moderator for an official ruling or simply taking the safe road and change the name.

1) "Gigantic Black Dudes" doesn't pass the offensive test. It's neither "Gigantic Niggers" nor "Black Men With Large Penises" (although by your other fields that is what you're suggesting, even though research suggests otherwise). That some people may take exception to the use of the word 'black' is probably negligible because the word 'black,' even to describe race, is not inherently offensive. "Gigantic White Dudes" or "Gigantic Yellow Dudes" would not be inherently offensive, while "Gigantic White Crackers" or "Gigantic Chinks" would be.

People with dark skin have dark skin. Some skin is so dark, it's almost black. Black people. People with light skin have light skin. Some skin is so light, it's practically porcelain white. White people. It's not a big deal.

2) Your motto is based on innuendo, but common schoolyard innuendo and it's equally nonactionable. Only the horribly prudish should take offense, and it's my estimation that the greater population of this site are not quite that pure of thought.

3) Your animal ("black man"), while perhaps not intended as a slight, is disallowed as per our rules (no subsets of humanity as animals).

4) Your currency ("black meat") does, I feel, cross the line. It fits in with the previous innuendo but the point of innuendo is that there must be at least one other reasonable entendre or else it's merely talking dirty for the sake of talking dirty.

5) Your activity in the Africa region (which I will politely describe as "combative"), while perhaps understandable, does traipse on the boundary of trolling with just a hint of flaming. Please play nicer with others and work to agree to disagree without necessarily defaming their characters as ignorant or racist. It's a silly thing to argue about, anyway.

I expect you will resolve these issues with all due speed, and so should that be the case no further moderation action will be required.

I just wonder what your reasoning was. All factors I've seen make me believe you were attempting to be offensive.

Just a point of clarification, and feel free to bonk me if I'm being pedantic - I understand that "black man" or "Chinese guy" would be deemed inappropriate for a national animal.

Is the line drawn if my national animal were, say, the "green man"? What about the "Army dude"? I'm assuming that race and nationality are out of bounds, but occupation or made-up classification are OK, such as my own national animal, the "third world dictator."

Occupations are still hazy territory. No one's really taken up the Bard's suggestion to kill all the lawyers quite yet, but when that particular cleansing does come I'm certain there will be a lot of museums dedicated to it and it will join the long list of things The Civilized Western World Will Not Allow By Brooming Under The Carpet And Never Mentioning Except Under Only The Most Discreet And Sensitive And Understanding Of Circumstances.

That being said, use "army dude" and "third-world dictator" as your currency to your heart's content. Part of the problem is that we have to ask ourselves "is the person trying to be offensive?" Someone who would use "army dude" probably isn't, while someone who would use "babykiller" instead probably is.

As for made-up things such as green men, purple men, Klingons, elves, red-haired arachnodactylic half-wyvern half-Hummel Figurines, go for it.
